Lothar, Morte, Suego's skull and "Not yet..."

I think I have the exact same problem as described here:

I have all the recommended patches, fixpacks, etc. I simply must have not been to a specific location in the game and I cannot continue now.
I have been in the Dead Nations location quite a few gameplay hours before, I still carry a few skulls with me, including the Suego's skull.
And the only dialog option with Lothar I've got is "Not yet...".
Is there a workaround for this? Even if it involves hex editing savegame files, please tell me I don't have to replay about 20 hours of the game again
