I saw some startrek discussion here, and i was wondering, anyone has seen the new series Enterprise, i downloaded 2 eppisodes cause it isn't available in the Netherlands yet. Have to say it's different then the other series, but maybe you have to get in to it. one thing is for sure, the title song sucks, don;t know why they have added vocals.

You can download it off the net?
Legally?

I haven't seen star trek any episode of nearly 5 years now.

Those sites are in fact illegal as they are not released legitimately by the company, they are a breech of copyright laws, talk about Enterprise all you want, just not about the illegal copying of materials.

Thanks.

I am not expecting much from Enterprise. Its coming here monday. I use to see the ST shows, but they became increasingly bad. "The next generation" was great, (Obviously) ,voyager I thought was too repetitive and I didn't like the captain. I thought DS9 was good, but getting old. I think ST has dragged on too much. They should have stoped after The next generation.

I want DS9 back!

I watched the first few episodes of Enterprise. The pilot was terribly unimpressive, but all of the ST pilots have been bad, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt and watched it steadily for three more weeks.

I must say that the show does have a fresh look, but I can't stand to watch it. The cast is either mediocre or bad, the writing is uninspired and they have backed themselves into a corner having to come up with new "futuristic" technologies that pre-date TOS.

Maybe I'm spoiled by good TV shows like The West Wing, but Enterprise is off my regular list of shows to watch.

That song does not suck! That song is good! It fits the show perfectly!

Bleah. I like the pilots, except for Star Trek TOS' pilot. :p

The cast is good. Especially what's-his-name who plays Captain Archer! The writing is good and it will improve as the show goes on! They haven't backed themselves into a corner with the tech. They're showing devolopmental stages of the tech from TOS, TNG, etc. The phase pistols for example. They're having to come up with more interesting situations that don't rely as much on the fancy tech. The show is also showing Earth in its early stages of 'entering into the galaxy.'

The West Wing? That sounds familiar, but I can't recall what it is. Enterprise, Andromeda, and Stargate SG1 are about the only good shows on now, and the only shows I watch. :p :p

You'd think that since they're trying to distance the new show from the rest of the franchise (ie-calling the show simply Enterprise instead of Star Trek: Enterprise) that they'd either have a new theme song written or they'd use a song that nobody had heard instead of using a Rod Stewart re-tread.

What's the point in writing a new song when there is already a great song that is perfect for the show, ne?

Yeah! Thanks. I'm terrible at remembering the names of actors. It wasn't until the TNG ended that I got Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner's names memorized.

But if the song blows, which is the general consensus among the Trekkies I know, then why use it?

The last episode (here in North America) was been good, because the show sort of abandonned trying for a peaceful solution to their problems.

Here are the conditions under which I will return to Enterprise:

1) Do one of the following things with the whiney linguist (Ensign Sato) they brought along for the ride: Either give her a healthy boost of self-esteem or have a transporter "accident" and spread her molecules all over the Alpha Quadrant.

2) Give Dr. Phlox more lines (he gets some of the best ones anyway).

3) Forget about a youth movement and get some more realistic senior officers (preferably played by actors who have talent). If you were building a state-of-the-art starship, would you entrust it to a bunch of Ensigns and Lieutenants? Hell, no!. You'd load it up with senior officers (O-5 Commanders and O-6 Captains) and let the Ensigns and Lieutenants fix coffee and stay out of the way. Also, where's the Chief of the Boat (or it's 22nd Century equivalent)? That's another thing I hate about Star Trek: everyone's an officer.

4) Give Sub-Commander T'Pol the NYPD Blue treatment and show more skin (or just play the video from her Maxim photoshoot in lieu of the next episode).

5) Get a theme song people don't associate with Rod Stewart.

6) I want a promise, in writing, from Rick Berman that he won't bring Michael Dorn in at the end of season four as an obvious ratings booster.

7) Hire Adam Corolla as one of the writers.

8) The ship is cool. Show more of it. Blowing stuff up.

9) Scott Bakula is a great guy, a pretty good actor and not a bad man to play the first Captain of the Enterprise. But he's carrying the show right now. Either help him out or stop pretending that it's an ensamble effort.

10) Did I mention that T'Pol needs to show more skin?

I would have to agree.

Yep

An exceptionally good point, it is like having the Teletubbies running the US goverment....oh wait.. ;)

4) Give Sub-Commander T'Pol the NYPD Blue treatment and show more skin (or just play the video from her Maxim photoshoot in lieu of the next episode).

LMAO :D

5) Get a theme song people don't associate with Rod Stewart.

You know Rod Stewart is great, come on admit it, you like the guy ;)

8) The ship is cool. Show more of it. Blowing stuff up.

Definately, it is like Star Wars, just lots of Sith beating up on Jedi (or visa Versa) that is what the crowd want :)

Sure I do. In fact, I'm president-elect of his fan club.

There's nothing more pathetic than watching someone who used to be good at something still try to do it even when they know they're past their prime. It's especially true of sports start (Joe Montana, Jack Nicklaus) and musicians (Cher, and yes, Rod Stewart). Rod's best work is far, far behind him, even though he had a pretty good comeback a couple years ago. I just don't want to associate him with Star Trek.

You may remember a comic strip called Bloom County; it was simply the best comic strip drawn in the 1980s. One day, Opus goes up to Milo and says that he had just seen the video for "Yesterday" (his favourite song) on the "new" MTV.

"Do you know what I used to associate with that song?," Opus asks (I'm paraphrasing). "It used to remind me of home; frolicking penguins on the glaciers of Antarctica. Then I saw the video. Do you know what was in the video? Half-naked girls with explosions in the background? Now do you know what I associate with 'Yesterday'? Half-naked exploding penguins!"

There are some things which should not be put together: Orange juice and toothpaste. Coolant and beef tips. Aging, burned-out rock stars and Star Trek.

That is true of many songs though. Imagine the first time you hear Smoky Robinson, or Tracy Champan ;) You are in for a shock. The image protraied by the music is completely different to what you actually find out from videos etc. but i digress. Yes you are right, i am actually in agreement with you, if you recall from previous thread i left (and continue to leave) the room when that song came on.

They have given her a "boost of self-esteem." Take a look at the episode that was on Wednesday night as an example.
2) Give Dr. Phlox more lines (he gets some of the best ones anyway).
Again, go watch the episode that was on Wednesday night. I think Doc had more lines than anyone else in the episode.
3) Forget about a youth movement and get some more realistic senior officers (preferably played by actors who have talent). First, there are numerous members of the ships crew we do not see.

Second, Starfleet may have a command set up like the navy, but that doesn't mean that it would be exactly the same. A Starship isn't exactly an ocean-going vessel, after all.

4) Give Sub-Commander T'Pol the NYPD Blue treatment and show more skin (or just play the video from her Maxim photoshoot in lieu of the next episode).
 Check out the next episode. From what they showed in the previews, there's another one of those decontamination scenes.

Actually, while "showing more skin" would give numerous young/old men reason to watch the show, it would be very out of character for a vulcan.

5) Get a theme song people don't associate with Rod Stewart.
Hmph.
6) I want a promise, in writing, from Rick Berman that he won't bring Michael Dorn in at the end of season four as an obvious ratings booster.
???? Micheal Dorn...that's Worf, right?

One thing we know won't happen will be a Klingon serving on board Enterprise, since the first Klingon to do so was Worf in the 24th century.

7) Hire Adam Corolla as one of the writers.
Who?
8) The ship is cool. Show more of it. Blowing stuff up.
If you want "lotsa stuff blowed up real good," then go watch Gundam Wing.
9) Scott Bakula is a great guy, a pretty good actor and not a bad man to play the first Captain of the Enterprise. But he's carrying the show right now. Either help him out or stop pretending that it's an ensamble effort.
Are you opposed to Tucker's(?) accent, too?
10) Did I mention that T'Pol needs to show more skin?
 :p
