Mage scrolls at pace of leveling?

Post by Claudius »

My mage can level to 13 but we don't have any scrolls for 7th level spells. I suppose Kuldhar will have some but I wonder if I should take a fighter level in order to use the returning shock axe in between spells cast.

She has rapid fire and is non-minmaxed so not a high physical stats.

Thanks.

No, don't take that level. Even if not min-maxing, it's just a total waste: you won't hit anything with the axe, as your BAB is too low.
Don't Wizards get two "free" spells at each level up?

My two cents, and something you will here from everyone is 'don't add another class to your wizard' [plus if you add another class now when your wizard is at level 13 I think you will suffer from a 20% xp penalty] - your wizard should already have an abundance of magical wands (e.g. magic missile, chromatic orb, etc) that even if he has no spells to cast can use the wands but even if you wanted something that did more damage then lets say a single magic missile wand then you could give your wizard use a crossbow (if you passed through the Underdark already than you should have run across the crossbow that allows 2 attacks/ round at +3 to hit/damage) and there are some good crossbows out there to be had. But your wizard unless you have a lot of wizards on your team should have a ton of scrolls to use that you don't need to have your wizard really engage any sort of melee even if it is just missile support.

Yeah, cool. It's just bugging me she can't cast 7th level spells. I think I won't level her to 13 until she can. That way I might get some extra xp for the party since she isn't leveled, don't know. I've always played sorcerors untill now.

@gawain, no mages don't get two picks. They should so as to resolve the problem of scarcity of scrolls. I guess I have done well getting xp. I am sailing for Kuldahar which is a place where it's hard to motivate to go further for some of my past parties.

Weird. Wizards should get two free picks at each level, as per P&P. You could CLUAConsole the scrolls you'd want, though, and it wouldn't be really cheating. ;-)

Not motivated to play when reaching Kuldahar hmmmm how about enticing you with a great dragon battle which is always fun (no reloads /cheats allowed); or how about sneaking into the Yuan-ti fortress with a paladin (pure) that won't wear a disguise - how to deal with it (and you can't kill your paladin unless you want his god to be really pissed at you); or how about the crazy Bane cleric who is really nuts and if you have a female character speaking to him he will actually ask if you want to marry him - then you get to kick his butt for a reply (plus I think he has some nifty spell scrolls in his hidden temple); and of course there are the 6 really vicious ghosts warriors that are optional to battle but are a must if you have a paladin - try battling with the spells you have in your spell book without preparing for them or reloading; and of course dragon eye is oddly entertaining for a thief character; and of course if you want more entertainment and rpg feel there are of course a few enemy wizards that your wizard can face toe to toe (with other party members not interfering) and have your wizard and the enemy wizard blasts each other to see if you can actually defeat an enemy wizard in a mage duel; and of course there is the time warp to play with and if you are evil you can really have fun being evil here ....while the story remains linear there are some things you can try like mage duels and really role playing - if you are a paladin be a true paladin and if you are a thief be a true thief and see how far you can get (don't pickpocket essential characters is my word of advice but otherwise go crazy - if you are thief take whatever you find and keep it then sell it but don't share it with party members...) lots of unusual ways to motivate your party if you really want to.
