The Toughest Creature in the Monstrous Manual?

[SPOILERS]
An ign reviewer said that The Imprisoned One is the hardest things in the Monstrous Manual, is this true? There must've been something harder than this guy. Or maybe the protagonist is so powerful at this point in the series that he just seems easy?
Also, I enjoy reading up on the creatures in this game after I've encountered them here just so I can learn more about them and see the difference in artistic interpretation, but the Imprisoned One was not in my Monstrous Manual. Is there an online resource or database somewhere that has detailed info on AD&D 2nd ed?

Isn't the Tarresque the most powerful, hands down? Or is it not considered a monster? Anything that requires -50 hitpoints and then a wish spell to kill has to be the hardest.

Well the imprisoned one was toned down for game balance, and you only get to fight his prime material manifestation, not him. He couldn't be killed even with a wish spell, killing the manifestation is just a setback for him.
forgive me, btw, I haven't looked at the monster manual in 17 years and I know nothing about the forgotten realms whatsoever.

If you found the Imprisoned one too easy, you can download his original form, before game balance, from Baldurdash.

In response to the original quesiton...
Don't know about the 2nd ed. Monster Manual but "the Imprisoned One" appears in the old 1st ed. in the Demon section, under "Demogorgon". Hope that helps.

You know what's funny about the Tarrasque? The books say there is only one known to exist. And it goes on to describe how you can extract 10d10 diamonds of 1k gp value from the carapace if treated with acid and fire. How in the world did they know this?! And the underbelly can be used to creat shields when mixed with adamantite. Again, how did they know that and how did they practice for such a task if only one such creature is known to exist and it's never been killed?! And how did they even know it takes a wish spell to kill it? And it had to be under -30 hitpoints for it to even work? It just don't jive. The Scientific Method has been thrown clear out of the window on this one.

That's info for the DM,
not the players!

True but I'm not bewildered at how players would know this. I'm lost as to how the smiths know that this can be accomplished if no one has ever tried and done this before?
Dwarven Smith: "Hey you got a nice piece of husk there, I can extract some diamonds out of this with some fire and acid. You'd probably get about 8 diamonds or so judging from the looks of this, and I guarantee you that they'll all be at least 1000 gold pieces in value!"
Player: "Oh yeah? Great! You've done this before?"
D.S: "Nope."
P: "Your mentor taught you how to do this?"
D.S.: "Nope."
P: "You saw other smiths do this?"
D.S.: "Nope."
P: "You've heard this being done before?"
D.S.: "Nope."
P: "Then how can you know this and be so sure of all these details at the same time?"
D.S: "Errr...uhhh...I gotta go! Yoink!"

Well, I figure that if the players take the stuff to be dissected and examined somewhere (possibly with divination magic), those are the things they'd get to know. I wouldn't bluntly assume that, just because these details are listed along with the Tarrasque's description, they're common knowledge.
DM: "...and the mighty Tarrasque falls!"
Players: "Yay! Woohoo!"
DM: "So, whatcha gonna do? Strip the diamonds out of its carcass? Make shields from its underbelly?"
Not!
