So long as he is the protaganist. In fact, anyone pc can cast find familiar. Just drink a potion in your inventory slot, then replace it with a scroll of find familiar. Cheap, but effective.

But being a fighter/thief, I can't equip the scroll without Use Any Item

You don’t necessarily have to wait that long… here's a little trick to find a familiar with any class at any time.
--> Pause game.
--> Open protagonist's inventory with some potion and Find Familiar scroll.
--> Open potion's window and click "Drink"
--> Replace potion's slot with scroll.
--> Return to main screen and unpause.
-->
casts Find Familiar instead of "Gulp".

You mean it doesn't have to be in a quick inventory slot?

Does this work with all spells?
I wonder how many solo non casting class chars have used the trick to cast abu dazim at a dragon?
best item in the game is the scroll case, but it does not hold enough scrolls. I think limit is 20 all together.

Speaking of UAI, my Kensai/Thief just got this skill

Think of it, kensai wearing fullplate mail. Someone else posted that idea on the forum here a while ago. But the strangest thing has happened, ever since he started to wear armour he's developed a faint smell of cheese........

Can a thief backstab with staff of the magi if they have use any item? Can they hide in shadows wearing plate mail?

1) Yes, a thief can backstab with the Staff of the Magi, as it is a staff; backstab only checks weapon type, not usability.
2) No, he can't sneak around in plate mail. The armor has the effect of disabling thieving skills. (just check that with a fighter/thief, you'll see)

so wielding that is like permanent assassination then.
bards and thieves really get the best ability

No, you cannot backstab with Staff of the Magi. Thieves can backstab with melee weapons flagged usable by Thieves. Staff of the Magi is not flagged as a Thief weapon.
Or did this change for ToB?

So far ive seen it work only with 'non-tageted', ie 'Find Familiar'.

Does use any item override clerics weapon restrictions? Can a multiclass cleric/thief use bows and swords?

He probably can with the UAI ability for thieves.

Hmmm, I thought that in the game the thief could backstab with any weapon that has slashing damage? I was quite sure that I was backstabbing when I used Ravager with my Wizardslayer/Thief(actually before the Solostrategy was posted). Or perhaps I did that much damage normally. To quote Bugs Bunny: Weeeeell. You never know.
