greying out of special abilities

hi
my second game of soa/tob and i realise in hell (tears challenge) that edwins and imoens special abilities where they store their sequencers/triggers is greyed out. they had minor sequencer/spell sequencer and spell trigger ready when i fought irenicus which wasnt used. didnt regain them with rest either. couldnt cast new ones either.
fortunately i remembered it happened with my first game too with aerie. at that time she didnt have minor sequencer active and after i cast it all the other abilities came on too.
since i was unable to do that this time i just reloaded an earlier save and made sure that a minor sequencer was released so on entering hell i just had to cast it and get all the other sequencers back.
on finishing saradush i realised that edwins abilities was greyed out again and couldnt cast any new ones as the game said they were still active although i couldnt assess them and not wanting to replay all of saradush killed him and resurected him. on his screen it was indicated that no triggers were active but when i cast minor sequencer the special abilities came on and showed that i had 2 minor sequencers and a spell sequencer and spell trigger. i released them all (the old ones came out as a fizzle) and continued on as normal.
whew, long story. just wondering if this was a common occurence and if it only happens to magic users. have heard in some posts about some thieves not being able to use their abilities. seems to be a bug with entering/leaving hell. next time i enter or leave hell am not saving up any of them triggers/sequencers for a rainy day.
by the way am playing with tob and patch and baldurdash.thanx for any enlightenment on this problem.and if anyone encounters this problem u know what to do.
