One question about monks; If I put a scimitar in his off-hand, and leave his main hand free; Will he be dualweilding? will you gain the extra attack per round and still be able to hit with his imporved fist? will you be able to use his abilities which are fist specific? Will he reatin his ability to catch arrows?

It will count as dualwielding, I recently tested it with my Kensai, you gain the extra attack etc. But, wether or not you will be able to use specific abilities, I am unsure. I think the best way would be to make a test character and see for yourself. I see no real reason for why it wouldn't work, though.

It would count as dual wielding on any normal character, however, monks are unable to use off-hand weapons.

As such, this is not possible on a Monk - but if he could, then yes, he would still retain all of his abilities.

Not 100% related, but Monks cant be hasted anyway, so no chance he will be getting lots of attacks the normal way, dual wield or not. But the good news is, he gets to pick greater whirlwind as HLA, which sets his attacks to 10 anyway. Its an interesting class but i never came to play it, there is always something even more interesting, probably the next one ill be playing is the Wizard Slayer and SCSII, that looks fun, thanks Habib. :D

'Twould seem my advice was wrong, then, disregard it, kindly. :)

Personally I never saw the interesting part of fighting unarmed in a game that revolves around massive swords etc., but to each his own! ;)

that was my problem with the monk as well, some cool abilities, but ultimately i liked gearing the other npc's & pc's more.

I had fun with the Monk. It's a very powerful, and later on pretty item independent class. Greater Whirlwind does make up for the disadvantages, and the passive abilities make the Monk almost shrug off all spells as if they were nothing.

The damage that a monk deals is comparable, if not higher than that of a fighter, and to top that, he can use wands right off the bat, which is a HUGE advantage, given how powerful they are. The only real disadvantage is that the highest modifier that the Monk's fits get is +4, so for some of those late game fights in ToB, he might need a +5 sword.
