Looking for a new game to play.

I am looking for a new multiplayer RPG or ARPG to play online, preferably with medium to low system requirements simply because i like to multi-task ALOT.
Three things i am looking for:
1. A active to semi-active online community still.
2. The ability to put the game down whenever i want without worrying about losing too much.
3. A semi-social aspect to the game but definitly social not being REQUIRED.
I have seriously thought about going back to D2 after D3 disappointed me BUT I was wondering if there were any other active/classic communities around, for multiplayer.

There's Titan Quest. Community is still active, it was a waypoint structure like DII, although with more frequent intervals, and you can trade online and co-op all you want.
It was on sale on Steam for 2.5€, now it's fullpriced for 10€. (That includes its expansion.)

I don't think i am going to play enough to spend money on it but i will look into it.

There's DDO. Pretty good, actually.

I will try it...been waiting for path of exile but the
y have stayed in beta so long it is almost as if their "free to play" advertisement is false. It is either WAIT or pay.

DDO is 3.5. With adjustments, but certainly no 4th Edition.

Weird? I believe you. I just always thought 4th edition was made with MMO simplification in mind.

Well, 4E was made that way, the creators admitted as much. But DDO was made before 4E was announced even.

Hmm. Does that mean there's another DND MMO?

In development. Neverwinter, free to play.

I wouldn't necessarily call it low system requirements, but Turbine (creators of DDO) also made Lord of the Rings Online f2p; it's one of the better ones out there. I played for a while, but as happens to me with MMOs, I got sick of it because of the grinding. As MMOs go though, it's not actually bad.

I was put off bu LotR's effort to make the grind EXTRA grindy, like having to equip specific tools for specific professions, even for harvesting.

DDO and LotRO both run better on the second computer than WoW does. They are both built upon the engine for Asheron's Call 2. They don't run great, and the settings are turned down, but they run. For quick reference the system has a 1.6GHz Pentium III processor, 2 gigs of ram, and an ATI X800 graphics card. We bought the computer itself eight years ago. I've been subscribed to DDO since 2006 so my opinion is biased there. I don't play it constantly, but I honestly love the game. I tend to direct people away from DDO and toward NWN if they want a D&D style experience with multiple people online, but it sounds like you want more of an action game and DDO leans more toward action.
I will second Titan's Quest if looking for an ARPG. It is arguably the best Diablo clone out there. There are some other contenders for that spot, and I feel they very close with one game winning out in one area where another game pulls ahead on some other feature. You can find an active community for Titan Quest at
http://www.titanquest.net/ and there are several mods hosted at
http://www.moddb.com/games/titan-quest-immortal-throne You may want to wait for a sale as it is $20 for the game and expansion together in the USA, but I feel it is worth it at that price even. A few of the old team later created Crate Entertainment and are working on another game using the same engine called
Grim Dawn.
There are a whole slew of Diablo clones out there and quite a few are pretty darn spanky. I've had fun with the Sacred and Divinty series along with Nox. I even liked Loki for what it was. I think how happy you would be with any Diablo clone would depend on exactly how disappointed with Diablo III you are and what aspects you did not care for. For example, Torchlight is lots of fun that doesn't last long for me. If you didn't care for simplification in Diablo III then Torchlight may not be fun where some of the mechanics in Sacred are hard for some people to understand because they can take some digging outside of the game to get the details.
There are so many games with online social components these days that you could find just about anything if you don't mind trying a few out or putting down some money. DDO and LotRO have perhaps the best microtransaction market I have seen in a game yet in that you can do quite a bit without spending any money at all, but even those two games limit you in some ways if you never spend five dollars on the games. Titan's Quest has the benefit that there is no subscription, but it's online component is usually hosted games. I'm not sure about Guild Wars 2, but the first one had no subscription and made its money selling boxes and the occasional extra such as character renames. It otherwise functioned much like other MMOs.

DDO is what I also recommend.
