I'ts hard for me to decide, witch multiclass to choose...I've heard that Ranger/Cleric is good, I mean he gets both cleric and druid spells.
Is he any good toward the end??

I soloed one on insane and I'm not the best player out there, so I'd say, from a power-gaming perspective, yes, he's damn good. Some mage-oriented class variations may be better, but there's nothing in the game a properly used C/R couldn't take alone. Any lich you meet explodes, any non-magic resistant foo gets at least blinded before he knows what hit him with sanctuary + nature's beauty (wonderful for disabling mages). Energy blades are great stonesking-eaters and mage disruptors (goes through). Devas are cool, skeleton warriors are a 3th level spell. And the most important thing: Iron Skins + Plate Armor makes one quite invulnerable in melee.

Do I reach xp cap if I play with 5 members in my party?I don't see any reason to solo in ToB otherwise!

Oh, you said multiclass... Sorry about my blathering above, I was talking about dual class. If multiclass, I'd recommend either Fighter/Mage or Fighter/Thief over R/C as the cleric part advances levels a bit too slowly for my taste. I think the dual-class is better here, as I prefer the number of iron skins over GWW.

You'll max out on Ironskins at level 23, while the multi caps out at level 25. That's half-way SoA, I believe.

I just recently started a solo multi ranger/cleric and so far he's excellent. The only thing that might be a problem are mages, but I'm sure that there's a way to kill them (energy blades comes to mind).

*nods* ranger/clerc are good, not as good as some other stuff like kenshi/mage but its still darn good and iron skin/stone skin is a MAJOR SAVER on insane diffucity when attacks can do 100+ pt of damage, i mean i onice had the red dragon one shot my bard with 350 hp i forgeted to do stone skin oops and the bard just exploded all over the place.

@ Musashi: LOL
Now if we could just get the dragon to breathe on other bards, like n'sync...<gazes thoughtfully into distance, trying to figure out how to arrange this...>

@GrimReaper: There's a guaranteed way to kill mages. Stay out of the mage's sight. Animate a skeleton warrior and send him to whack the mage (AutoAI does this for u). If the first gets deathspelled, simply send another. Works every time agianist a single mage. Sanctuary + Blade Barrier/Nature's Beauty works also. Blind mages do nothing.

nages are easy. any pure spell caster is easy.. disrupt their ability to cast spells, I know of at least 12 and so do you guys, but its when you have a spellcasting monster or innate abilities like demi lich it becomes hard.
The party mages, with human intelligence to set up and prepare nasty tactics will always win, even if you disdain cheese tactics... its when the spell caster is a dragon, or a demon, that things get complicated.
but even the toughest mage will fall to multiple sets of skellys...for even greater effects, my sorc carries two spells just for the summons....
mass inv and haste! this will turn skellys into mordenkainen swords of long duration! better in some ways!!
no magic targetting, this is less important due to skelly magic resist, but its the haste that turns them into pure killers.
m swords mass invisible and hasted are simply the nastiest summons in the game, with possible exception of planetars with globe of blades up.
mass inv is important for them, cause they are still vulnerable to hold spells and possibly slow spells.
most importantly, making your summons hasted means they have a excellent chance of getting in close for the first attack. inv is just icing on the tombstone...

Send a Skeleton Warrior in to soak the first couple of spells (until the ubiquitous Protection from Magical Weapons has worn off), then spank with Flail of Ages. End of Mage.
