I am doing the initial mage guild quest and i am stuck in Bravil.
I talk to the local leader Kud-Ei and she is supposed to have me talk to varon vamori about Ardaliene. she is supposed to give me a spell scroll "captivate and she does not. when I use another spell "Beguile" he does not mention the stolen staff. What am I doing wrong?

Have you explored every option in her dialogue tree? There are a lot of options, so many you have to scroll down in order to see all of them, the crucial one being about the mages staff for example is often at the bottom.

That was exactly the problem.
I feel so silly that such a small slipped past me.
I quest opened up exactly as it should have once I scrolled down.
I feel like a silly old man... Heyy wait a minute Io am a silly old man.
