I've been doing some reading regarding cleric's and wizard's/sorcerer's being more powerfull front end fighters with the right spells and stat's, but what about the huge differential in Base Attack Bonus between them? Wouldn't this close the gap considerably between a fighter and a wizard that has been buffed up by spells? Cleric is more inbetween the 2, but wizard's and sorcerer's are a huge difference.

The number of base attacks you get is capped at 4 which you reach at 16 BAB, that's 16 fighter or 22 priest levels or paladin2/sorcerer28 for example.
Most guides compare the classes at level 30 (which won't be reached without exploiting) when there's no difference in attacks per round any more.
In a normal mode game the level at the end is 16-17 so warriors will in fact have more attack per round than the other classes.
At level 17 17/12/7/2 (warrior) is definitely better for doing non-magical damage than 12/7/2 (priest) or 8/3 (wizard).
