I'm just starting the gauntlet. According to the Strategy Guide, there are supposed to be shadow portals to move about within the gauntlet. I just zoned into the entrance area from Crossroad Keep. I moved around the whole area and fought a lot of Bone Spiders. I see a lot of blue pillars but none of them are "actionable items". The door out of the entrance is locked and cannot be opened.

Where are these shadow gates?

Its been a while since I played, but if I recall correctly the portals are just black mist/fog, they are not actually portals. Just walk into the fog to be teleported to another section.

Checked the walkthrough on this. I had to "bash" the door down to get out of that first zone to reach the first fog area.
