Baldurs Gate Movie : Who should direct it?

After finishing the game for the 20th time (this year) one thing made me realy sad. I was sad about the fact, that it IS an old game, and not many young players are willing to try it out. They will miss THE badass of PC games (Irenicus) THE open-ended RPG, THE NPC's that stick to you for a long time..
But enough of my rambling
If there was a Baldurs Gate movie comming out, who would you like to direct it?
Just please, don't say : "Nobody, movies based on games suck". We've never seen Spielberg direct such a movie, AND our discussion is just some theorycrafting. BG movie, if it will ever come out, will probably be directed by Hannah Montana, and will suck so bad, that we'll face the end of an era.
Anyway, i'd chose
Frank Darabont for masterpieces like Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption just blow your mind. Ofcourse Frank would have to be a huge Baldurs Gate fan to put it all together (and the movie would have to be quite long.. in few parts probably)
Actors? No clue, but i'd love to hear Warner once again as Irenicus

Green Mile and Shawshank are superb flicks, but for something involving high fantasy you need someone more imaginative, less classical.
I have to roll with Zach Snyder who is pretty much my favorite emerging director. The unique visual styles he created for
Dawn of the Dead,
300 and
The Watchmen suggests to me that he would be capable of delivering justice to any BG-themed project.
I know for a fact he would make Warner into one bad@ss, live-action version of Irenicus.
: 2 cents

It might be just a personal prefference, but this was the reason i would not want Zach direct Baldurs Gate. He puts fantasy creatures where those should not be. Remember the 700 pound "man" with blades in place of his forearms? The 3 miles high elephants? The story of Thermopylae battle should be directed with more classcial view.
I'm affraid he would put the FANTASY part over everything else in project that is based on a world of magic and monsters

Even more, D&D geeks would devour him alive if something was breaking the rules! (fear the geeks!)
Edit : But 'tis may be just a personal fear, that has no solid arguments behind it.

You may be right about that. In Dawn of the Dead, he pissed off legions of fans with his 'fast zombies'.
I never read The Watchmen comic books so I don't know how faithful he was to that. I don't recall hearing any controversy on that film though.
As for 300, remember...history wasn't his guide...Frank Miller's comic book was.

I was pretty happy with the LOTR movies; Jackson might be a good choice there just for his work in the genre. You'd really need someone that grew up on D&D though to fully understand the game and how to tie it in to the movie.
Is it just me or does Hollywood really miss out on stuff like this? I mean some of these games are HUGE and completely ignored by the movie moguls.

Rant following! I
hate PJ even more than Jaheira.
I would love to challenge him to a duel with swords, slice his fat gut open and watch him try and hold his intestines in. Perhaps even go really nasty Viking on him and force him to walk round a tree with them stuck to it while they unwind! Edited to add: Or roast a Blood Eagle on him, it is a myth, but I would like to try
I would not really, but I like the thought and I was pretty handy with a sword before my injuries forced me to two-handed spear.
As you can probably tell, I am no great fan of PJ. I believe he ruined public perceptions of Tolkien's work by changing the storyline unnecessarily for the worse and generally appealing to the lowest common denominator. And, as I fearfully predicted, even people who consider themselves Tolkien fans now refer to the film as the ultimate truth on Middle-Earth, even when they are
wrong! I react to him and praise of him like Minsc reacts to Evil. Only credit I will give him is that the filming and locations were nice.
In fact he might have been more suited to the AD & D setting than Middle Earth. I like Forgotten Realms, but... it is not on a level of sophistication like Middle-Earth or Tolkien's thoughts and works.

Uwe Boll... heheheh!
He's probably about the only one who could do it as nobody is ever gonna bankroll the damn thing!
Think of it, it would be like 1 part Hawk the Slayer, 1 part Soft Porn film and 1 part Conan the Destroyer.
Think of the Wonderful actors he has had in previous films:
Jason Stratham as Minsc
Kristanna Loken as Jaheira
Tara Reid as Imoen
Michael Madsen as Keldorn
Meatloaf as Renal Bloodscalp
Ben Kingsley as Jon Irenicus
Ron Pearlman as Sarevok
Ray Liotta as Edwin
John Rhys Davies as Jan Janssen
Christian Slater as Cernd
Stepehn Dorff as Anomen
Michelle Rodriguez as Viconia DeVir
It would be the best worst film of the best game ever!

If I'm directing it, I'm giving the role of Jan Jansen to Rosie O'Donnell, simply on looks alone and her ability to grow the requisite facial hair.

I died. Maybe let's give Irenicus role to Leslie Nielsen? "Naked gun what 4 : Frank plays Baldur's Gate"
Uwe Boll... heheheh!
If we wanted to turn it into a low budget postal-like comedy, then sure

Come to think of it, Uwe is the only guy who's game based movie did not reach the very bottom line of quality!
Is it just me or does Hollywood really miss out on stuff like this? I mean some of these games are HUGE and completely ignored by the movie moguls.
Because movies based on games suck..
I was thinking about PJ also, cause of his commitment to special effects, but somehow i feel it would be another LOTR clone when made by him.
Keanu Reeves would be a good Irenicus, due to lacking any facial expression. He wouldn't even have to wear a mask!
On a more serious note, i'd give Sigourney Weaver the role of the fat saleslady in Waukeen Promenade.
Minsc? Bruce Willis! "Bruce and Boo stand ready"
Khalid - Mel Gibson (Mel loves playing characters who die horrible deaths)
Protagonist? It'd be perfect if the protagonist was anonymous for the whole movie, so that everyone could identify with him/ her. Sadly i'm aware that it would turn out badly for the movie.

Mel Gibson? Khalid's corpse would be spouting anti-British propaganda. How many Brit-hating films has he made? It is quite a lot.
Some weirdo-local suggestions.
Anders "Anden" Matthesen as Jan Janssen.
Viggo Mortensen as Valyagar.
Mads Mikkelsen as Irenicus if we cannot use the original actor.
John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson for some of the comic roles.
Ray Stevensson as ... I dunno, but I want him in. Perhaps as hendak or some of the Flaming Fist High-ups in BG I.
Jesse Jane & friends for some of the prosties.
Frank Hvam as Khalid (I kid you not, all his roles are Khalid-clones, I detest him, try googling "Klovn").

IMO The only person who could properly play Jan Jansen is Chris Rock

huh? Chris Rock drops too many eff-bombs...and he's too tall. I don't understand the connection or resemblance at all. Chris Rock is stank-funny. You need stupid-funny for Jan...short and fat.
Maybe Seth Rogen?

He also has somewhat darker skin. But after watching "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and listening to his monologues the first thing that came to my mind was... Jan Jansen!
Rogen eh? Hmm... On my way to rent some movies with him

How about Anthony Marcus "Tony" Shalhoub for Jan Jansen?
