Building a ranger character for SoZ

The last time I had used a ranger character, is when I 1st got NWN 1.

I have never used ranger for NWN 2. With the original campaign, I had played the fighter/weapon master. I have got myself SoZ expansion. I've heard that it is best to play start off with main character with stealth skills, like a rogue or ranger.

Does anyone have recommendation on what ranger's alignment, attributes, skills, feats, etc that I should start the game at?

Also what weapons and armor should I focus on?

I've heard that you can choose between an archer type or two-weapon type character. I'm thinking more along the line of two-weapon type. Can I use any type of sword? Should I long and short sword, or 2 longswords?

Rangers can be of any alignment in NWN2, so this is completely up to you, based on your actions etc.

However the default alignment is chaotic good, which I almost everytime pick when I play a ranger in a D&D game. If you want to choose the two-weapon style, then I'd recommend two katana's or bastard swords. However, I do not know how much magic weapons ther are in SoZ, since I only have the original+MotB. And there is a feat in NWN2 called "monkey grip" which let you wield a two-handed weapon + shield. I'm not sure if you can dual-wield with that feat but you can always try (two greatswordswould be awesome :D ).

Sadly dual-weapon use is generally not such a good idea, but then neither are bow attacks EXCEPT for SOZ.

In fact a ranged attacker using bows can have as much damage as any dual-wielder, and yet have FAR better attack numbers (..with your character far less likely to get hit because they are making a ranged attack most of the time).

IMO, go for the Archer if you want to pursue this route.

IF you decide that's something you'd like to do then you'll have a few other things to consider, but I'll get to those once you've made up your mind. ;)

BTW, the best equipment in game is all enchanted by your party. That doesn't happen until about a 3rd of the way into the game, and it's the reason why Archers can be so good in this game: because they can have enchanted damage into BOTH bows and arrows with 3 positions EACH. :mischief:

BTW, for SOZ you should be making 1 to *4* characters.

Here is some info on that:
