Red Dragon Scale.

Now, the Red Dragon Scale in Shadows of Amn can be combined with Rings or Cloaks of Protection. In ToB it can't. You people probably know this. How do I go around modifying files to get that feature back, or download some modified files? It vexes me greatly.

There's "Ease of Use" mod which allows you to wear magical items (rings, cloaks) along with magical armor

I only want it for that particular piece of armor, as it is before ToB is installed.

There's no direct way of making it work for one piece of armor, since they changed the general ruleset with ToB, making it impossible to wear any magical rings/amulets while wearing magical armor.
The G3 Tweak Pack (which is the successor to the old Ease of Use mod) can change it so that you can wear the rings/amulets without restrictions, but it affects all armors. To my knowledge, there's no way to change just the Red Dragon Scale.
You might be able to delete something from the override folder, but I haven't a clue what it would be.

Hmmm... would it be possible to do a regular SoA install, copy the Plate file, do a ToB install, and then paste the Plate file into the override folder and overwrite the ToB version? It's called PLAT19, to my knowledge. Is that a feasible workaround?

I'm not sure if that would work. You may want to try one of the modding communities for that answer, G3 or PocketPlane maby. If its something in the PLAT19 file then I don't see why that wouldn'y work, but if its something in the game interpreting which plate is considered magical and which is not then it wouldn't work.
Either way sounds like a lot of trouble to go through just to add som AC. Besides certain items will still stack anyways like the Ring of Gaxx I beleive. I think its just the magical Cloaks, Amulets and rings that are called " ?????? of Protection +?"

Well, I just counted on that setup in my pretty much all of my partybuilds. Cloak/Ring +2, Ring of Fire Resistance and the Scale. ToB messed it up. I could, in theory, use a savegame editor to force the items together.

Yes I forgot about that. You could use Shadow Keeper and just equip it to the character. It should stay on as long as you don't remove it, might come off after level up not sure.

Do you really need something that specific to keep you from cheating your own principles? Just use BG Tweaks and uh, don't pair any magical armor with jewelry EXCEPT for the dragon scale armor. Have faith!

Uhhhmmmm... I just want to use those two items together, not be able to part the Red Sea. I don't want to install all kinds of tweaks and so on for the sake of two items.
Besides, if I install SoA, I can use that combo. If one of my characters is wearing the items while I install ToB, they can still carry them, just not unequip them and use them together again. So exactly what principles am I breaking by not wanting to reinstall the game every time I start a new character?

It's only one component of one single mod and all it does is exactly what you want in this case: magical armor + rings. No parting seas of any color, only that.
The only downside is that it will work for all the armors, which is why I said, remedy by showing personal restraint and not equipping "illicit" combinations.
You can, of course, invest time and effort to manually re-add the armor with Shadowkeeper every time you level up, die, or un-equip for whatever other reason. But weighing the arguments against installing that one mod component... I think it's pretty clear.

Wait, what? I don't seem to remember that about this particular combo...
