Slaying some of the invulnerable ones

I came by this old thread BioWare Forums: Destroying Shandolar, Candlekeep guard, or Duke Eltan? and was immediately intrigued by the method that describes how to kill supposedly invincible critters.
After my party knocked individuals like Duke Eltan unconscious the tricky part began though. I later discovered that attacking the aforementioned with a weapon that poisons him (e.g. Dagger of Venom), put his lights out for good. So it did against others like Ulcaster, the Candlekeep guard, Koveras (hard because of his good saving throws), Scar but seemingly not against the ghost knights. Some of those knights carry some nice goodies, so a shame really. Their saving throws are all down at 1 (death being the crucial one). I haven’t succeeded so far, but might there still be a slight chance for them to fail the save, thus becoming poisoned?
Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to turn Duke Eltan and/or Koveras hostile? Else it would mean that when they’re killed, you’ll loose an immense amount of experience as well.
Finally, this method doesn’t apply to Elminster. I doubt it but is there any way to defeat him too?
