Problem with Acid Splash

I just reinstalled this game because I had an itching sensation in the back of my mind to play it and I created a character to turn into a mage. I just got acid splash at level 6 and for some reason, when I use it, my character just goes into the casting animation and green gas surrounds me but nothing happens. My character stays this way til I move. Is this some sort of bug that updating my game to 2.2 caused? Anyone else experiencing this? What can I do to remedy this?
