Yeah, I got bronchitis again... 4th time in 5 months
I have to ask how many of you are sick here? Because a lot of people have gotten sick lately.

Happens every winter. I'm a chronic asthmatic since birth, so think of it as a non-stop, 24/7 bronchitis service.

Still, if you've got any obstructive lung disease or inclination in that direction, this is the worst season to be caught out. My doctor's always recommending that patients stock up on Vitamin C, zinc, and ecohnicea (sp).

I haven't been sick myself, but lots of people in my building have been; there's a single ventilation system so when someone in downstairs catches a flu bug, it's a pretty good bet that it's going to make the rounds through every other department. I've always had a pretty good constitution and don't get sick often, but lots of my co-workers have been dropping like flies. We had a couple of days back before Christmas when 50% of the staff called in. Luckily, every other department got struck with the same thing, so no one was getting any work done.
There was a 24-hour stomach virus running around my son's school that he and my wife got. She's a nurse and her general advice for anyone who is sick with a seasonal illness is to take lots of vitamins, sleep regularly, eat a healthy diet and drink lots of non-alchoholic and non-caffeinated fluids (ie-ginger ale, water, milk, pedialyte or any other electrolyte solution, etc.; if you don't have to pee, you're not drinking enough fluids). Don't take antibiotics as a preventative measure as it will only strengthen microbes in the future.

Caffeinated fluids aren't necessarily bad, except that they tend to speed up the body when it needs to relax. I'm using a caffeinated Doctor Pepper right now because I've been having acute anaphylaxis (breathing spasms) for the better part of over a week, and caffeine is related to other, stronger bronchial dilators (like epenephrine). Of course, I'm also on other stuff, too, but the caffeine is a good off the counter additive without many side effects.

I've been lucky... My immune system kicks ass... the only problem is, is that when it breaks down, boy does it ever...

I had the flue(SP), but the Dr. said it developed into Bronchitis, and probably wil develop into pnemonia.
FYI, being sick is not fun.

Yeah, that's the usual progression. Weak lungs run in my family. My sister doesn't have it at all, and she treated an asthmatic attack like an obnoxious beggar. Then, her second child, when less than two years old, came down with double pneumonia three times in less than a year. Her remark, to my mother (and relayed to me), was classic: "Oh, was this the kind of stuff my brother went through?" It's never too late to learn a little empathy. Damn shame it had to happen in such an intimate way.

Oh no! Pneumonia is the worst! I had it when I was 5 years old, ugh was I in so much pain!
Yeah, I concluded the cause of my bronchitis is cigarette smoke, based on a whole bunch of evidence. In other words, don't smoke around me or I get bronchitis

And the insomnia associated with it is why I am up posting at 5 AM...

You're right that it's not always bad (although it
is an addictive stimulant), but caffeine and alchohol are diuretics and if you consume too much, you will discharge a lot of fluid that you wouldn't have ordinarily. If someone is sick and also throwing up or not eating, dehydration is often more dangerous than the actual illness.

I have a very good constitution and illnesses are something I rarely get. The last time I was sick with anything serious (not a cold!) was probably when I was 10, when I had an incredibly bad stomach bug that caused projectile vomiting. I was on a fast for a week and all I was allowed was electolyte solutions and water!

Clarify the meaning of sick. I have been called that all my life.
If you mean being ill, I have the flu again.

I find this interesting. I don't dispute it as I've heard it from other sources, but I seem to be different(as usual).
About the only thing I drink is Dr. Pepper(sometimes coke or cherry coke instead). I also sometimes drink Green Tea, Snapple Rain, and Snapple Fire, though not very often. I never drink water. I hate the taste of water. Sometimes, it even makes me feel nauseated. Bottled water tends to be worse than tap water, imo. I've been this way for at least two years now, though I've never cared much for water. Anyway, I never have a problem with dehydration. Back when I drank water more often(not totally by choice, but I was more willing to drink it then), I often had dehydration problems and would overheat easily.
As to the original topic, I've been sick since before Christmas. I've had chest conjestion(sp?) the whole time and coughing a lot, usually coughing stuff up(not out of my stomach). In fact, I've been suffering from it since Christmas '99 when I had bronchitis, but it's worse now than it has been for quite a while.

I'm just the opposite. I drink a lot of water, but then again I do get sick a lot... maybe the fluoride wasn't such a good idea

Oh no that is a long time!!

How motivating... I'm lucky enough to have bronchitis right now, and am missing school today because of it. I will miss my Chemistry lab, my English project, and an Algebra quiz... and next week is midterm. I can't really afford to miss any more days this week...
Edit: I also have to make-up all that... I'll probably present my project on Tuesday, but I'll have to stay after sometime this week for the other stuff... it'll be very inconvenient because I'll only have about 3 days to work with

Oh and quarter ends this week... Midterm really isn't considered 2nd or 3rd quarter, it's just its own little thing...

I find Breathing Thyme tea very helpful for the congestion of bronchial-related problems. The nicest thing is that it doesn't taste like tea. Bear in mind, my mother used to force me to drink Lipton's while boiling hot when I was a child, stuck in bed for a month or longer at a time; as a result, I developed a hatred for the flavor. Breathing Thyme actually tastes
good, by my standards.

I think that I'm a very healthy

person. My resistance is relatively above average. When others get sick, I don't usually follow suit...
...however if I do get sick, chances are there's only one culprit...
...stress.
Psychosomatic?
Maybe at times.
Especially if I'm too lazy to report for work.

I regularly *had* bronchitis, but it stopped since I began to live in UK. I'm living in the countryside with plenty of flesh air now, but I lived in London for 5 years and the air quality is no better than in Tokyo.
After a few years, I realised I get cold with nasty cough each time going back home. So, I solely put the blame on my dad's 20-a-day smoking at home.
