I don't think it is possible to be permanently expelled from the Thieves Guild. If you really want out, then just break a guild rule and then ignore the subsequent re-entry quest.

You could also just stop following the quests. You don't HAVE to do or complete any quest line. Of course, that doesn't get you expelled, but unless you have a specific reason to get expelled, why bother?
Personally, I love the Thieves' Guild quests, but that's just me... I love having a character that can just sneak around unseen. :mischief:

Another alternative I just recalled is to use the console to remove yourself from the Thieves Guild faction. But that could lead to unsavory complications down the road.

@Fljotsdale;
While I generally enjoyed the Thieves Guild quests, I did find the final one to be slightly tedious. All those undead you have to bypass during The Ultimate Heist still haunts my memory.

What I liked so much about that was sneaking past unseen, just using Sneak skill, with the mildly scary possibility of being spotted by some old ghost or lich or whatever, and being obliged to fight several all at once. But I pride myself on being able to get through most - if not all - of the Ultimate Heist, totally unseen. :D

I make sure that any class I am playing has a good Sneak skill. It is always useful!

Actually, I was a master of sneak by the time I undertook that quest too. But I still took it upon myself to cleanse the Old Way of all its ghoulies. :p

If something doesn't mess with me, I don't mess with it. And after all, nobody but our hero ever goes down there, right? And if another adventurer did, s/he'd find it pretty tame if it was empty. And as for cleansing the place... well, you can't, really, can you? 'cos they respawn! :p

I find that alchemy works very well in tandem with the thief skills set. Being able to brew and use plenty of invisibility potions means slipping past all those noisy rooms with people who would obviously rather not be disturbed.

Agreed. Nothing can beat the good ol' poisoned arrow.

@Galraen;
I don't need the encouragement, thank you very much. :p
