I've never played this game before, but I know that I've never had any graphical problems anything like these with any game. They look like these strange glowing neon shards:

I'm playing vanilla Oblivion with the latest patch from the official website. I wanted to make sure everything was running smoothy before I started piling on the mods.

I'm hoping this is somewhat common and can be resolved by just tweaking some settings, but some cursory searches didn't turn up anything helpful. Otherwise the game itself runs just fine on my system (as expected), smooth with no stuttering or other glitches of any kind.

Any help would be appreciated.

dude the most likely thing is the game itself. somethings just glitchin it. take it to gamestop or something and see what they say, but i would just get another one and return the one you have, because thats NOT normal.
