Let us now remember dead restaurants...

My wife and I were shocked, tonight. We went to our favorite local Indian restaurant--a really great place, arguably the best we've found anywhere (and we look for 'em), only to discover that they were dark, with an official-looking notice on the door. It spoke of seizure of the contents, in lieu of past-due payments for New Jersey taxes.

Sad, really. I don't think the state will recover 1/10th the cost from the buffet setup or kitchen. They might as well have worked out a deal to take part of the proceeds for a time; but traditionally in the US, tax services are not terribly compromising. And as they've never tasted the chicken tikka masala or lamb saag, they don't know what they're missing. :(

Sad :( IMO not a good strategy for solving tax issues. I think it's better to make a structured, realistic pay-back plan that allows the company to continue its activities and thus having a possibility to pay off the tax debts.

Indian food :) Sigh, why do I always get hungry when I read this board?

maybe sym could hold a memorial, Grunt and the Pantless marines could be the choir, and Doc Waverly could conduct the service. ;)

There is a remedy for that, you know. In the Pennsylvania Deutsch countryside where my sister lives, it is called knackering. :D

LOL :D I think he could be classified as a human life form, although this of course is another of the blurry lines in biology. Where is the limit between life and non life? Where is the limit between an animal and a plant? Where is the limit between Aegis and a fungus?

:D

No, I'm afraid not. The same cholesterol-rich mutant dwarf fried chicken that he sold years ago is being sold to this day. Besides, if we included all the restaurants that were started by people now deceased, we'd have far too large a group to label.

We should probably stick to excellent restaurants that have closed down. Got any to add? :)

Ooh, I have one! Although not a restaurant so much as the local Indian takeaway... does that count? ;)
