I love it the book rocks!!!I've only got to the surface raid but it can't get better but i know it will!!!

Your only just reading them now? Hmm... They are good books, but so far, I belive Salvatores best writing to be "Servant of the Shard" and "Sea of Swords"

The Dark Elf Trilogy is the benchmark of AD&D fiction and Salavatore at the height of his popularity. Drizzt is at his most sympathetic and the books are not burdened by a reliance on crossover characters, excessive fighting and a story that's driven by the plot, not the characters.

I liked Servant of the Shard, but not as much as the Dark Elf Trilogy. I am presently reading DragonLance - i have gotten most of the FR books - like 30 of them.
And those are good.
I am on the Time of the Twins.

Oh yeah Drizzt, i like the books as well.
I haven't read any of the recent ones, but i bet they are good.
Personally i like a bit of comedy in my books, just a slap stick joke here or there.
Salvatore doesn't do that.
Oh well, no book can be perfect, except lord of the rings!

Just got through with Spine of the World, and enjoyed it imis...emins....immence.....uh....a whole lot.

Hmmm seems like BS suffers from the same dysfun...dsy...problem i have.

Seems like it - interesting observation i didn't notice at all!
But different types of posts - mine of course are all COMM!

I have expressed my opinions on these books many times,and IMO the best out of the fourteen are:Homeland, silent blade (part involving Entreri and Jarlaxle) and The Servent of the shard.

With that said, the best purely entertaining part in all of his books is in Passage to dawn (p. 112 in the softcover edition),when Robillard and Harkle Harple do the wizards duel, naming the wizards as they go.(something like this: "Aghanazer"."pfeh, Aghanazer was a mere trickster")in short LMAO

My favorite line was in Servant of the shard, near the very end when Jarlaxle and Entreri are traveling to Spirit Soaring.

That elf woman drops behind them, yelling Halt and Yield. Jarlaxles response is classic

"Halt? Why must everyone yell 'Halt, and Yield' to us? we're not even moving!"

Well the end of the Servent of the Shard
is like the odd couple,alot of (Attempts) at comedy.

Some of which were successful...

Salvatore's best work, IMHO, is in the Dark Elf Trilogy, Streams of Silver, Servant of the Shard, and (somewhat) Sea of Swords.

My favourite Drizzt Do'Urden books are Homeland, Streams of Silver and The Halfling's Gem (mostly for its scene with Malchor Harpell). I think that is when the characters are the strongest and the prose is the best.

I think the weakest books in the series are Starless Night, Seige of Darkness, and The Silent Blade. Those books are plot-driven and have a "phoned-in" feel to them. I did not feel any sort of emotional connection or urgency in any of those three books and I think that you would not be missing anything if you skipped them entirely.
