Glitch with Dram Bero's Support/defeating Champion... need to use console for journal

I'm encountering a glitch while obtaining Dram Bero's support for Hlaalu Hortator.. (possibly a mod conflict, I can't tell)
Basically, Bero orders me to ask his champion, Garding the Bold, for a duel, and I get the following journal update:
"Dram Bero agreed to support me if I can best his champion. I must defeat Dram Bero's champion, Garding the Bold, but not kill him. I can knock him out or fight him to a draw."

OK.. so far so good. Except that when I speak to Garding, while he agrees to meet me in the arena, my journal does not update... He does show up in the arena, though..
We'll begin to fight, and at no point (even though I try to even things out by going hand-to-hand) does he give up in defeat and announce he'll inform Dram of what happened. Instead.. I have to hit him until he's dead.. and I still receive no update. When I report back to Dram, he's continues to tell me I need beat Garding in a duel..

So, basically, I need to put the following updates into my journal:

70 I defeated Dram Bero's champion, Garding the Bold.
100 Dram Bero agreed to give me his support on the council.

How do I do that?
