I've only ever played morrowind on the xbox, and I was considering buying it for the PC. I was just wondering if anyone has played on both systems and could tell me which is better. I am planning on getting the expansion version as well, if that helps. Thanks in advance.

If you have good computer, then I would say pc. Most of the benefits of having it on computer comes from the mods, and there are thousands of those available, ranging from new items to new quests to even totally new towns.

You don't even need that god a computer anymore, any PC built in the last 5-8 years should run it easily. I simply can't imagine playing the game on anything other than a PC, if only because of the thousands of mods available.

I can only chime in here and agree with the above.
In my view, vanilla Morrowind is a solid game, when you begin adding mods it becomes an excellent game.
You can get: texture replacers that update the graphics to near Oblivion quality , complete game overhauls that make gameplay more interesting, large and very well done quest mods, companion mods, mods that allow you to easily arrange items, mods that add dialogue to the NPCs making them less generic.. player homes... The list is endless..
I'd suggest taking a look at our mod sticky thread so you can see the diversity of mods available. Just to note, a number of the links in that thread no longer work, if that happens just try googling the mod name, and that should get you somewhere. Or, you can check this search directory.

There's really no question: a decent PC allows you far more control of the game in terms of mods, as discussed, above. There are 8000+ mods out there, many of them increasing the game's quality of experience greatly: companions, new shops, easier gameplay, harder gameplay, quest lines, new guilds, many different appearances to the playing environment, improved opponent AI, etc.

Thanks, it seems unanimous. The prospect of all those mods is tempting. My computer should play the game just fine. Thanks for your input, I am definitely going to get it for the computer then.

Around this particular crowd a question like that is almost guaranteed to have a unanimous result
One thing I forgot to mention earlier, your instincts to go with the GOTY edition are definitely sound. Apart from the fact that the expansions are very good on their own merit, many excellent mods require that they be installed.

Are there any mods in particular that you would recommend?

Read the mod sticky thread.

In addition to the mod sticky thread, you might also want to take a look at:
Morrowind Mythic Mods (which also gives you information on installation etc.)
Telesphoros List of Mods (quite possibly the penultimate mods list, regularly updated with mostly working links)

Also you might want to check out
the Morrowind mods list at Planet Elder Scrolls. This is the best resource for new Morrowind mods, though the player opinions sometimes tend to sound as though made by children expelled from sandboxes because they couldn't get along.

Indeed... I generally scroll through the comments, just to get a sense of a mod and to see if there are any glaring problems with it.. but having to wade through the sandbox silliness is tedious to say the least.
I fully understand those modders who disable comments.
But anyway.. yeah I agree, PES probably is the best site for mods. I really like Telesphoris though, because there's generally a reliable standard of quality in the recommendations. Plus it provides a really nice overview of the types of mods available.
@Benk, one word of advice when choosing mods from PES which has generally worked well for me.. If the author has written the description with care,
rather than splattering it with vocabulary such as "Like yu will luv my really uber kewl mod" chances are that the work is good..

This is very true. Look for documentation with a mod, as well. If there isn't any readme file, or only one that contains a sentence or two, be suspicious of the mod's quality. Watch for descriptions online such as "Anyway, it's my first mod," which translated, means "I didn't watch what I did too well, so become my beta tester," or "I added all this neat stuff to a barrel," meaning "I've added all this over-the-top stuff that will make the game yawningly boring to real players."
