What was going on in the world or in your life during the year of your member number? Simple question, just a little educational exercise. Sure this would be really easy if your member number was something like 1066 (remember good old Chris48178?), but others might have a harder time. Also, I propose a little rule for those members with numbers greater than 2001: subtract 2001 from your number and change it to B.C.

I am member number 1874. That year, U.S. Reconstruction was continuing after the Civil War under president Ulysses S. Grant, a bunch of French Impressionists held their first show, and British troops entered Ashanti in present day Ghana during their conquest of West Africa.

In addition, Charles Ives was born in 1874 (a composer known for discord), as well as Gertrude Stein (a Southwestern artist known for painting pictures of cow skulls).

My great, great aunt was born in 1874. Oddly, Ruth Jane Hamby was born on November 30th, same day as my birthday (not the same year, though).

Interesting, now what can you got with my member number here ? Or may be Sleepy's number ? FYI we've got less that 1000 And I've got no clue what happen at 105 BC ( no offense but i really do not know)

I'm not sure what happened during my year either

A quick search at the History Channel.com reveals that the Chinese perfected papermaking in 105 A.D., and Eric the Red discovered Greenland in 982 A.D. But I'm sure there is more.... Research!

Hisham III, caliph of Cordoba, dies. His death ends the Umayyad caliphate that has been a force in Islam since 756.

Byzantine Empress Zoe poisons her husband, Romanus III , and marries a weak and epileptic man, Michael IV Paphiagonian.

Mieszko II of Poland dies. His death sparks six years of dynastic warfare and insurrection.

Canute dies, leaving England to the incapable hands of his sons.

Goichijo, Emperor of Japan, dies and is succeeded by his brother, Gosuzaku.

Guido d'Arezzo pioneers musical notation and invents the great scale (gamut), the hexachord, and hexachord solmization.

Ferdinand I of Castile conquers the Spanish Kingdom of León and makes himself King.

Stephen I dies after a long reign that spread Roman Christianity throughout Hungary. His nephew, Peter Orseolo, whose father is doge of Venice, succeeds him.

Holy Roman Emperor Conrad II dies and is succeeded by his son, Henry III.

1106 AD: Battle of Tinchebray- An English war of succession came to an end at the Battle of Tinchebray, in Normandy. It began with the death of William II, King of England on August 2nd, 1100. Henry I (Beauclerc) seized the throne, but was opposed by his brother Robert II (Curthhose), of Normandy. Henry defeated Robert at Tinchebray and returned him in chains. Robert spent the rest of his life in prison.

I'm guessing, but I believe some Crusade was going on and the Mongols were conquering the China and the East under Genghis Khan.

In 103AD some plants grew and the Chinese worked on perfecting papermaking, only succeeding in 105AD.
