Morrowind Graphics Extender

Post by dragon wench »

I'm looking to do a new install of Morrowind and I'm considering MWG..
Has anybody here used it? If so: How smooth is the install? Is it relatively bug free? How well does it work with texture replacers?

Thanks! ;)

I don't think your machine would have much trouble with it.

As long as you read the help files you should find it relatively easy to set up. You have to do a setup thing though which takes up some time.

My best advice is not to fiddle with something if you don't understand. Otherwise you start to get problems

By the way. You can't use the nice water with distant land. The water it makes you use looks terrible.

As for bugs I haven't found any. As long as your textures aren't strikingly different to the originals it should be okay. I'm not sure where it gets the textures from.

Your best bet is to just experiment.

@ML,
well, I'm not worried about my PC, it is able to handle everything I throw at it, including a heavily modded Oblivion at maximum settings... ;)

However, my concern was with the program itself, since I'm not always comfortable with fairly techie stuff. I mean, I'm only just starting to get comfortable with Wrye Mash/Bash after numerous months of frustration... :o :D

I had heard about the water, but it seems that there is a tweak out:
Tweaked water shader for MGE - Planet Elder Scrolls
ES Forum Archive - Morrowind Graphics Extender (MGE)

So.. I'll see. I think I probably need to do some more digging as well.

Thanks though, I appreciate the reply. :)

To be honest the program is quite complicated.

There are lots of settings to choose but there are also two buttons to give the best quality and best performance settings.

Seeing as your setup can run anything there shouldn't be any fear of it trying something that would crash your system. All you'll really have to do is create the distant land meshes which is easy enough.
