The Crime of the (20th) Century

In a century of violence, where more human beings were probably killed than any other century in the past, it's pretty hard to come up with THE crime of the century, so this is just speculation. JFK's assassination should be on the top ten list, as well as the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand. Had the events of September 11 occurred last year, that would be my #1 pick. IMO, however, the greatest 20th crime (short of the invention of the Internet, which spawned a generation of Spammers) was Hitler's Final Solution.

Stalin's killing of 20 million of his own people...Pol Pot's massacre of his own people...Idi Amin's massacre of his own people (and elephants!)...I fear this would be a rather long list...

I agree with Voodoo and DW that the list goes on and on :(

If I have to pick just one crime, it would the the Great Terror of Stalin.

If I have to pick one crime directed not against a vast population but a single person, I'd pick the shot of Sarajevo, ie the murderer of archduke Ferdinand.

Although I agree that Stalin was wrong for his repressive and brutal regime we must remember he a actually tried to do it for Mother Russia, he was wrong doing it that way however. One even worse was what he said:
One death is a tradegy, a million is just a statistic.
P.S. I don't want to start an argument about Stalin please. :) :)

In my humble opinion, I question whether or not we can even determine what constitutes the worst crime. Doesn't ascribing a value judgement to one particular event diminish the horror of countless others?

Enough to know he commited atrocious acts of savagery and brutality towards the people of russia, and those countries he had occupied. I am aware of what he has done, and how immorale it was. But, at the same time, I know why he did those things. He did them to further not only his own power, but the power of Russia. I do not agree with what he he did, I merely understand why.
