If I may be so bold as to suggest--the whole idea of ranting is better kept to private email. I would suggest Ivan might want to contact whichever moderator closed the subject he's referring to, and CC Buck, at the same time. Just my two cents.

I have no reason to you do not close the topic. IMO you should do exactly what you did. You were right and logical closing the topic.

My new topic is and expression for the all forum members, about my feeling when some topic is closed and I have samething to say about it.

In your case, the topic, was directed for your poster side, not moderator side(the topic closed you also can reply it anymore).

Again, I have no restrictions as the way you moderate the Forum.
The problem is not the closing of the topic, the problem is that I hate when it happens.

For good or bad, some topics must be closed. Buck , Mr.Sleep and Ms. T give us a lot of freedom here.....freedom some boards will not allow.

You have the right to remain spamming... anything you spam can and will be used against you in the court of Buck.

Anyways, closing threads is a good idea usually IMO. I was moderator at a UBB with over 5000 people and yes it can be a pain in the butt... people sometimes "spam"... and spam meaning post senseless posts and messages... like asdhfsoidahlifhasf and shdaifhpiwbhwhhqefhasois.

If we went strictly by the rules used at the last board I was at, SYM would definitely be dead.

Being that the board I was refering to was a Pokemon board, there was one type of "spam" that was particularly hated, yet commonly used. The board has pokemon smilies, one for each of the 251 pokemon. One of these pokemon is named "Ditto." Members, when responding to a topic and agreeing with something someone said, would quote the person they agreed with and put the "Ditto" smilie under it. IIRC, there were several topics in which 90% of the posts in the topic contained nothing more than a quote and the ditto smilie. Needless to say, these folks ain't very original(but what do you expect from a bunch of 8-12 year olds, ne?)

Well SYM was created times ago for one purpose - off topic talk (Spam if you wish), so many boards would not be comparable to this, due to the SYM-forum

But even then - some people have tried to post threads with post only containing numbers of letters, or giberish words - these folks are mostly not here anymore.
Such posting is also a bit discouraged by the fact that we don't operate with ranks dependend on number of posts (except pre/post-30 posts IIRC)

So this is generally a spam board - withour "excessive" spam

The board I was at had a similar forum. It was called "Misc. Stuff" IIRC. Sandy is more likely to remember for sure. That board also had over 5000 members, IIRC. I haven't looked to see how many members GB has. The problem with their Misc. Stuff forum, I think, was that it was not done properly. The type of posting like is done here(conversations and such that tend to be offtopic) would not have been allowed in Misc. Stuff. They were way to serious there.

Shouldn't a board with mostly adults/late teens be more serious than a board with kids/early teens?

The board I was at did have the ranks. That caused many a problem. There was one person who had like 10,0000 posts within like 4 months of the board opening up. IIRC, a new rank had to be created because it hadn't been expected for anyone to post that much that fast.

I was at the board for about 6-8 months. I left right after I reached 1000 posts. I wasn't much of a spammer last year back then, though I think that board just didn't lend itself to the type of spamming we do here.
