Dead OoM kills Safiya? SPOILER

I'm on my first playthrough of MotB, about to go to the City of Judgment and do the whole ending sequence. My brother has played through it, and he let slip some of the ending, and it may have interesting ramifications, as I have made some unique character decisions (at least as far as I can tell after reading some forums about the ending).

I am CN alignment, with OoM in the party, but I did not consume the Wood Man. I have the romance going with Safiya (I think... max influence, the occasional banter in social situations, etc). My brother told me:

If I was good or neutral, with Safiya romance and OoM, ending is marry Safiya, OoM kills Safiya, you kill OoM.

If I am evil, with Safiya romance and OoM, ending is marry Safiya, she lives, but we plunder and pillage everything.

As far as I could tell, NWN2 MotB WIKI confirmed this.

Now I'm not a fan of either of those endings... my character isn't super evil, but I think it's crap that Safiya has to die at the end because I thought OoM was hella cooler than Okku as a companion (and besides, I didn't need another fighter around playing as an RDD).

Now here's where it gets interesting... I allowed OoM to devour Myrkul. I know he's going to attack me as soon as we're alone. If I fight OoM and devour his soul, he'll (theoretically) not be alive at the end of the campaign. As such, theoretically, regardless of my alignment, the Safiya romance goes as it should have gone, with no OoM to kill her at the end.

However, I'm aware that this is just a computer program, and that the creators may have overlooked this unique approach.

Long story short, does anyone know if the ending will check to see if OoM is dead from the "Myrkul-as-OoM" fight for the purposes of storyline? Or will a recently-devoured OoM return from the Abyss to kill Safiya anyway?
