I am new here...so please forgive me if I am asking a question that has been answered already...
I seem to have a problem with this quest...her is important info to begin with...I am playing on my XBOX 360...NOT a PC...
Ok, I get all the way to the king of worms himself...and he jabbers through all the hot air he has to spew...then goes to the attack...this is where I encounter a problem...I litererally cannot hit him...I go through him...he has no substance...
Have I done something wrong? Is this a glitch? Do I need a special weapon???

Yep, search the forum for "confront the king". There should be a thread with a dozen or so replies with a number of suggestions for moving things along after encountering the glitch you described.

Welcome too! Hm. It seems like a clipping issue to me. On the PC, you'd open the Command Code Console Window using the ~ key. You'd click on him and enter, "TCL", without the quotes, to either turn his clipping on or off as needed.
When an NPC clips in the "X-Box 360" version though, I don't know how to remedy that situation, other than to keep at it until he does die, or reload from a previous save, or leave the cell and come back and hope he's reset to solid.
I only play the X-Box version when I visit my brother, which isn't often, so I don't have that much experience with it.
I hope that I helped somewhat, if not much.

Ok, this is really weird...and hysterical at the same time:laugh:
I searched the forum like it was suggested to me and read about using flame on his feet which I did and it knocked his health bar down but very slowly....I am running around like a crazy person, healing, shooting fire, etc...when all of a sudden I do not see him ANYWHERE! And then the quest marker thing pops up saying I have killed Mannimarco!!!
I use the one and only potion of waterbreathing I have and dive in...I use my light spell to search and low and behold the dufus got himself stuck in the underwater tunnel and drowned himself!!!:speech:
LOL
So I looted him and got out quickly!!! Problem solved...
Thought I would share this NPC's crazy actions with you...so you'd get the laugh I did...

That is an amusing anecdote! Congratulations on your success! It's ironic for me, as I recall Mannimarco causing my character to drown once, in a similiar fashion. Then upon reload, both drowned. Eventually, I changed to third person to see that the problem was. One of his summons was blocking his retreat and a slaughterfish or two was getting at me from behind! So now I prefer to fight once the bones are up and keeping us on dry land.
