The Irish Goverment has declared Friday a national Day of Mourning and as such all bussiness and enterainment will cease to show our respects to the dead.
People have lined up to the American Embassy in order to sign a Book Of Condolances.
The phone lines where overflowed last night as almost all Irish People have Friends or relations in America.
There is concern that rash action may be taken in anger towards middle eastern countries.( or indeed people from thoe countries )
A tragic story is that a 44 year old mother wiht her 4 year old daugther was on one of the filghts, her friend was on one of the other planes to be hijacked, her brother works in the WTC and barely escaped with life having seen a woman engufed in flames has he left the building. This is just a small part of everything that is going on to give an idea of the depth of this tragey to everyone.
Thats the general stuff going on here.
Anyone else from anywhere have anythign to add?

I have heard lots reports here in Chicago of people yelling and threatening any Arabic people. How sad

This is eerily similar to behavior when the US attacked Iraq. It is truly unfortunate how short sighted people are.
I think the arab-american community dreaded this day, knowing that they will be incorrectly blamed for this tragedy.

I hope it doesn't escalate. Those people had nothing to do with what happened, any more than I have in common with the KKK just because I am a white male from the south. All arabic people did not do this, it was done by a select group of individuals, and we don't even know for sure that they WERE arabic.

Sweden held a moment of silence for all the victims this afternoon.
Official masses have been held all over the country this evening. The Swedish king and queen participated.
Sport and entertainment events are cancelled in respect for the victims of the attack.
The police has closed the area around the American embassy, but people put candles and flowers outside.
There has been manifestations against terrorism around the country.
In Gothenburg (Sweden's most "anti-american" town) people filled a square with candles to show their condolences for the victims.
Only one Swedish person is missing.

The same in the UK
Also I hear the FA have cancelled all European football games tonight and tomorrow (22 games), and it looks like the Italian GP might also be cancelled this weekend...

I guess it just makes all our differences seem like they don't really amount to much. This act took place on American soil, but the danger is international. It could just as easily been any other country, and deep inside everyone knows this. That is the reason I think it seems to hit home so much world wide. That and the outrage over the total lack of value for human life shown.

I understand that, and maybe my point was represented unclearly, let me clarify....
What I meant to say was, this took place on American soil, inside our borders. The fact that these people would choose to strike inside the borders of a major world power on this scale, means that they would have absolutly no hesitation to target anyplace on earth. If they don't care to do this inside American borders, why would they not do this inside China, Russia, Enand, Canada, or any other place?
I apologise if my comment sounded harsh or offended anyone.

The latest from Britain... Nearly a hundred British people have already been identified as victims. And thousands of people (many of them Americans stranded here) listened as the American National Anthem was played and two minutes silence were held at Buckingham Palace this morning... "it was so quiet that you could hear the leaves rustling."

The same scenes that you descriped above are occur all over germany.
Yesterday a guy ( dunno what he commitet) was sentenced by a judge to pay 10.000 D mark (thats around 4000$)not to our state (like its usual) but to the Donation fond for the victims of the US terrorist attack.
Many Judges and courts are allready following his example.

@Bloodstalker - I agree
This is just my observation, and a personal opinion...
The Americans were the victims, yes, but did it REALLY matter to these despots who they hit?
They wanted to hit big and with maximum casualty and publicity...they could have taken out Canary Wharf and Westminster...
Look at the timing of the whole operation, this massively shocking story was unfolding page by page for our horrified attentions:
1. Passengers on the planes are encouraged to call home on cell phones and announce the hijacks
2. Plane No1 hits Tower No1. All eyes are on this tower...freak accident?? No, because timed 18 minutes after, once all cameras are rolling on the WTC
4. Plane No2 hits Tower No2
5. Whilst we are reeling from this an explosion is reported in Washington...
Page by page, terror and panic and mass publicity.
Will they come forward? Not yet. They are wallowing in the publicity of their acts at the moment. They wanted the WHOLE world to see what they were doing and prove just how organised they can be...wait until the US has 'weakened' and see how much backing the US get from other nations...absolute madmen! What can they possibly achieve? - yes they have caused worldwide panic - but for what end? Satisfaction? They will certainly gain no sympathy...
With regards to this type of attack on the US being a matter of time, as discussed in another thread, there is NO paramilitary group powerful enough to take on the might of the US without cowardly guerilla tactics to cripple their economy and military operations first.
It had been speculated that the plane that came down in Pennyslvania was heading towards the second Pentagon.
Like I said they could have taken on ANY nation...if they had top publicity, and crippled the economy and military operations, their organised terrorist attack would strike fear into any other nation.
In any fight pick on the biggest guy first. It just happens to be the US. In my opinion there is more to this than the US' actions in the middle east (as was discussed in the other thread).
This is a direct attack on the western world...my God do we all need to get behind the US now...
