OBSE Issues *sigh*

Alrighty... seeing as I more or less have my game running the way I want it to... I am slowly working through the intricacies of Wrye Bash, and I've successfully installed CoBL (Common Oblivion -- highly recommended btw)... I figured.. why not install OBSE..
Now, I am using MWSE without a problem. Since the install process for the two is identical, I'm pretty sure I have done it correctly. I have copied the needed files into my main Oblivion folder as per the instruction in the readme, and then I used the launch icon to launch the game.. Initially it all looked fine, but then once I tried to load my actual save game it crashed. I have already tested this a bit, and it works fine if I launch the game through the regular (non OBSE) launcher.
After digging around I saw some posts that suggest OBSE might conflict with UI mods. Seeing as I am using Dark Darnified UI, I'm wondering if this might be the culprit.
However, I know of people that use both, so I can't help but wonder if:
a) I'm doing something wrong
b) there is a work around that allows use with UI mods..
Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated
