Hey guys

I need assistance ... I've been walking in circles for hours!!

trying to gain access to Rivet city, my legs hurt you know  so ... anyone in the mood to tell me the exact spot-metro station-whatever I should start from to discover Rivet city? maybe a quest needed to be completed for it?
I'm a level 11 capitol crusader and still have found L'enfant Plaza, L'Enfant South, the Rangers Compound, the Irradiated metro and the Museum of Technology for example. And now I'm at Seward Square ...
thanks ... good gaming ...

I'm guessing you're talking about Rivet City. Which is actually linked to the greater Capital Wasteland, by which I mean you don't need to go through any metro tunnels to access it. Just follow the river down to the very southeast corner of the map and you can't miss it. If you're already in Seward Square, you'll either need to take a metro tunnel back outside of the DC ruins, or fast-travel to another location along the river. You can also get there by swimming across the river from Arlington Library, but you'll pick up a healthy dose of rads and probably get ambushed by mirelurks and supermutants a couple of times along the way.

It may be best to attempt this by taking the bridge slightly North East from the Super-Duper Mart, which should not be too difficult to find if you travel East out of Megaton.
Once across the bridge, keep to the riverside on the east of the river, keeping low and hidden as best as you can. The basic route will be to keep the river to your right and press on. Eventually, you should see a broken carrier ship, you goal.
Tip: If you have a quest that needs you to go there, select that quest to make it your active quest and follow the solid large arrow on your compass at the bottom left. If not right click on the map around Rivet City and proceed to follow a large hollow arrow on the compass. Both will lead you to your goal where ever they are; and it is intelligent enough to assist in navigating the subways, actually telling you which tunnel and door to take.

Thanks guys

well I actually manage to get to Arlington cemetery ... so I probably take the swimming option ... problem is maybe I'm a little short of Rad-X and Rad-Away so maybe I HAVE to go back as far as the Super-Duper Mart and follow shift244's suggestion ...
and thanks for the navigation tip, I'm more used to reach locations through location names instead of the arrow but I'll try it ...

P.S. (spoiler)
Explore the Jefferson Memorial before going there. It's literally next door to Rivet City.

The compass navigation is a GPS, which helps, especially in the tunnels, to guide to locations. It has it's merits, but adhering too much to it means less deviation from the path. The game rewards deviation (in terms of player, not character, experience); so stray!
Some locations are almost lost unless you spot them from some high cliff side...

Damn it ... now I'm trapped inside Mama's Dolce's Food distribution

(the one near Arlington cemetery south) and I can't find a key to open the bridge and get out of that mess

... I'm trapped between the mama's Yard and Processed foods levels ... if I don't open the gate I have to go back cause there's no other place to follow the coast.
where's that key?

well finally I did a messy trip all over the lower part of the map to get to Rivet City ... after swimming through the river. I liked that movable bridge to access the carrier's entry point

... never found a key to open that door so I don't have a clue what's behind it.
thanks anyway people

There is a locked gate in Mama Dolce's that doesn't have a key. Oversight? Deliberate? I don't know. But I suspect you found the gate.

It's deliberate IMO. It's not enough with mutants, overgrown insects, Talon mercenaries, poisoned food and radiation? they (programmers) just want us to suffer ... ... a lot indeed heh...
