Today I took some time to thoroughly sort through and organise my side of the closet. It was a probably a mistake because by the end of the ordeal I was forced to conclude that I have once again reached that point where I need to go clothes shopping..

OK, now I am the last person in the world, generally, to look into the closet and lament that I have "nothing to wear." Moreover... I despise clothes shopping. The only way I can usually get through the process is by indulging in a very alcoholic brunch beforehand.

However, all of this set me to thinking. There are items in my closet that aren't worn out, and are still quite wearable.. but they have that "look" to them.. You know, the kind of look that somehow spells sad and uninteresting..
So how does that happen? I'm sure I'm not the only one who experiences this. The clothing itself is still fine, it fits, it still pretty much has its shape... but yet.. there's that sense of it being old and tired.

Bear in mind that yes I am very aware it is a luxury to even be able to think like this, and that, in fact, I am relatively frugal when it comes to spending money on what I wear.

So thoughts? What is it about an article of perfectly wearable clothing that spells "old and tired?"

We live in a consumerist society... no matter how good you are, everyone has to have at least one fixevery now and then . Yet to meet anyone completely immune to consumer culture.

In my closet, its the "new" items that have the "look" to me...
this comes from my mother's habit..(yes...I know I'm old..she's 89... )..
but she still thinks she has to keep her son dressed...warning to you young ones out there...your mother's habits never really change..:speech:

racks of new..still tagged...khaki pants...awhile back, my daughter got her to finally buy something different.....so.....now I have, besides the khakis.. ...
quite a few pairs of black pants....
ps..edit.....I'll never give up my collection of torn/faded Grateful Dead tees..:laugh:

I met a few who couldn't be bothered about fashion trends, but most people I know do take fashion seriously.

As for me, I do keep (and wear) quite a number of old clothes, some which I bought in the late 90s. Since they're still in good condition, I don't see any need to throw them away unless they're torn.

Besides, I lost interest in fashion a loooong time ago. Call me fashion blind all you want, but I prefer it this way, thank you very much.
