An Experience with Failure! (Spoiler?)

I stopped playing this morning to come here and post about what just happened. Hopefully Regis & Kelly won't distract me too much and I can get through this. But anyway.....

I'm doing the Aleswell quest, "Zero Visibility", just to get it over with. I usually end up there, because of the Master Trainer Quest involving Heavy Armor. Then I get talked into doing "The Gravefinder's Repose", and then this quest is usually next. However this time around, I detoured by clearing out the nearest ruins, when usually I ignore them, because I intend to save dungeon clearing for after all the quests have been completed, just to still have something left to do with the game. Well, Ancotar gives Apple Candy Cane the ring and the scroll. She goes up to the garden with the Orc still hoeing the soil. Because she has the Ring of Harvest(ing) though, the crops are all gone! She get into position, carefully watching the map and the compass to make sure she is in the right spot. (I saved too, just in case.) Well, Apple cast the spell, but it somehow failed as a Journal entry tells her and me that she wasn't in Aleswell so the spell failed! (Or words to that affect.) It's been so long since this has happened before, that until just now as I was writing, that I forgot that I'd failed before. But last time, I reloaded my save and kept trying until I got it right, or I had to use the Console code.

But this time, my curiosity wanted to know if what I'd read was true. So Apple leaps down to Ancotar and he is shocked but gives her a secon scroll that he had made as a back-up. He says he doesn't want to see her again. She makes her way back up the trail, resurrect dead sheep as she goes, due to the one female and one male Conjurer who are both chasing the sheep in ernest combat. (The sheep I made out of invisible Black Bears, not the Argonian's sheep. Thus far I haven't seen him or his dog, by the way.) Apple tries again, and fails because of the same cause! But according to the Map she is spot on! It says that she should visit him again. Ancotar is so angry, he yells at her about how she is a failure and all and tells her to go away and never ever return. Apple makes her way to the innkeeper, and he is upset too. Ironically enough though, his two sisters like Apple now!

She goes outside to the garden again, with the Orc still there. He tells her that she is a failure and should leave too. She uses the Console to get two books by error, and then finally two more scrolls. They fail too!

In the meantime, the Orc leaves the garden to join in the Conjurers' battle against the bears-turned-ewes, that now includes Scamps. I don't know who's side he chose, for that's when I saved under the file name "Failure".
Still no sign of the Argonian and his dog. Usually he takes the extra sheep under his care, glad to have the extra profit potential I guess.

The Conjurer's are supposed to be on their way to meet Apple in "The Tiber Septim Inn", not fighting what they call "evil sheep"! (I've noticed that the way to tell the Good from the Bad, is observing who kills the ewes I make versus those that don't. The Bad do, the Good just stare at them. Especially guards of any type. They just look so flabbergasted!)

Anyway, I'm not sure which way to go with this. Will I load the save game and keep trying, until Apple gets it right? Or will I continue with the failure on her record?

Which way would you people do it? Your choice just my influence mine if you reply fast enough before I get bored. ;)

I only ever did it once, and it worked fine. I think I stood reasonably near the Inn, I didn't bother trying to work out the exact centre of the place.

Hi, Fljotsdale! Thanks for the same day reply! Well, according to the Map & Compass, the center is always in the garden. However, some glitch with a source I'm unaware of, sometimes causes the point about the exact center to be moot. Hm. Actually, I'm not sure which Emoticon fits there.

As for my character, should she keep a failure on her record, or keep trying until she gets it right. I'm undecided for now. What would you do with your character's reputation and/or record? ;)

Well, I got bored with waiting. So I loaded the save game where she hadn't failed yet. She failed anyway. So I tried again. She failed anyway. After that, I decided ot go with the failure and allow her to have it on her record as such. Sigh. :o
