Your Favourite Vanilla-Game House

Even though I don't actually need additional accommodation I just completed the Benirus Manor quest, and it got me to wondering which in-game (non-modded) houses people like.

For me it's Benirus Manor because the price is right, it comes with a real quest (as opposed to defining "quest" as a shopping mission  ), I quite like the design, it has a decent amount of space, and I appreciate the Anvil architecture because it has a Mediterranean look to it. Plus, I find the Gold Coast pretty, it reminds me a lot of the Northern California coastal region, which is just beautiful. (as well as the Grazelands, which is my favourite area in MW)

There are only two real down sides to the place: One, even after the "renovations" it is still a bit dark; however, that is easily solved by adding candles and lamps. Two, that damned table parked precisely in the entrance way, though, that can be consoled away. I guess, since I'm using mods and the console to fix the problems, my nomination doesn't entirely count.. but oh well... :D

On and off, I think I've bought most of the houses, and some are, obviously, better than others.
I quite like the Skingrad house, and Benirus Manor (yes, I like that quest, too. :) ), but I have to say that my favourite is the shack on the Waterfront. Why? Well, it's in the Imperial City (almost) and is handy for the best shops; it's compact and has all the containers I need (after I've purchased 'em); you can pretty it up with silver items, books, vases of flowers, etc; and has only one downside: you can't upgrade the bed.

But ALL the dwellings have major faults, for me:

1. No water supply
2. No bathroom facilities
4. No kitchens or cooking facilities of any sort at all (I wonder where the cakes and occasional pies are cooked?), even the cafe's/hotels have no kitchens!
4. Raw meat presented on the tables for meals

So, ok, I don't expect such basic necessities to be interactive, but it would be nice to have them there! Just for a bit of realism. Is it too much to ask?

Mind you, I'm one of those people who wonder where my char could have a quiet pee when dungeon-crawling...

@Fljotsdale,
lol! You should check some of the realism mods out at Arwen's site :D

Seriously, I do agree with you... Even in the old Black Isle games, if you went into a tavern, at least, there were kitchen facilities... Surely Bethsoft could have considered these necessities.
Mind you, I'm one of those people who wonder where my char could have a quiet pee when dungeon-crawling...
Maybe, to use the words of Rowan Atkinson... Bethsoft envisioned dungeon crawling as "damnation without relief." :p

Heh!

Some of those mods are pretty good: I like the idea of taking a bath especially... but I didn't see a mod for a toilet...

I don't dare download any of 'em, though. My game already crashes too often for my liking - though not usually as spectacularly as NWN2 and expansions crash. I think I need a better graphics card.

I'd have to say Skingrad, because of the display cases, tons of containers to sort your loot, and super-convenient location (for me, it's the quickest house to get to once you fast-travel to the city).

Anvil's a close second; it's hard to overstate the cool factor of having a secret room in the basement.

Bravil is my least favorite by far (it's a dump in an inconvenient location).

As far as facilities go, I'm assuming it's rain barrels and chamberpots (or at least for some male characters, the huge lake right in the back yard of the IC waterfront shack would do nicely for most purposes, 'nuff said :) ).

Yeah, that's where I imagine everyone 'going', and it kinda puts me off letting my char swim in there, LOL!:laugh:

My favourite is Skingrad because it has display cases and more room to show off things you want to keep, a servant who makes shepherd's pie (!) and a little mini quest. Plus Skingrad is, probably, the prettiest city so it's a nice place to live
Second is Anvil though I'd like to have the upgrades like the other towns.

And least is probably Bravil because as Belthan says:

I seem to have bother navigating both Bravil and Leyawiin so houses there aere a pain as I have to traipse about trying to find them everytime I want to put some keys in a drawer.

It Is Difficult For Me To Choose A Favorite.....

....... so I won't. However, I am attracted to the mystique of the Isolated House. It is rather sad though when an Oblivion gate destroys it. :(

Once you the get rid of the Bandit tennants, it is close to your Knights of the Nine Priory. The drawback is, it refuses to be placed on your Map.
The Waterfront Shack, has that nice "attic" space over the door. You get a boat dock with chairs to sit on and watch the sun rise or set. Too bad that you can't use the cellar door or the boat.

Hiring Eyja counts as a one paragraph quest! :p

Well, okay, at the risk of hurting a house's feelings :p I like or love Frostcrag Spire, because it comes with Transporter... er uh, Teleportation Pads! :D

I suppose if I had the last DLC add-on with "Battlehorn Castle" (?), that might be my favorite home.

Anyway, I agree with the previous assements, though I seem to find the charm of each place anyway.

As for me, I hate body waste disposal functions, so I try not to dwell on them. I prefer to think that Magic has something to do with it. :p
