Patching

I've seen it written elsewhere that you should attempt to patch only the main game, or SI, not both. Apparently, one patch does the trick. Can anyone confirm this, or alternatively, the opposite--that they did successfully patch both, and played without problems?

I installed the GOTY edition (Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, Shivering Isles) and I then installed the most recent SI patch.
If you have not already, I also suggest downloading the unofficial patches for both Oblivion and Shivering Isles, they fix a lot of bugs.
