Morrowind Upgrade

The other day I received an upgrade to Morrowind. Thinking it was a valid upgrade, I downloaded it. Now, I'm thinking I screwed up?

Now, the follow appears when I try to start to play Morrowind as the game is loading at Tribunal.esm.

After each pop-up I am asked “Continue running executable?”
With Yes and No buttons.

I click on yes each time and after the last question, the monitor goes black and I have to start the game over again, only to have the same thing happen.

If I click on No the screen goes black right away and I’m back at my desktop.

I have just start to play in Tribunal. Been through the sewers once.

Is there a way to correct this problem? Here is what happens:

Chunk size 10 too big in chunk WEAT_ID in form REGN_ID
Mar size is 8, data truncated to “#”.
Continue running executable?

Yes No

Data Handler: Unrecognized form. Look in the warning file for more information. (What is this and where can I find it?)

Region Felsaad Coast Region weather chances do not total 100 percent

Region Moesring Mountain Region weather chances do not total 100 percent

Region Isinfier Plains Region weather chances do not total 100 percent

Data Handler: Unrecognized form. Look in the warning file for more information.

Thanks for your help

What do you mean, "The other day I received an upgrade to Morrowind"? What exactly was it you ran? Where did you get it from, or who sent it to you? We can't help you unless we know what the thing was, and where it originated. Only then can we tell you whether it's a problem with the "upgrade," or the installation.

After doing a search on my computer I found the following: “Morrowind_V1.2.0722.exe-372B9212.pf

If it is not this then, I can’t answer your questions, because when the question was asked, “Do I want to install”, I clicked on yes, and it installed. I simply wasn’t thinking.

Where did you get that?

Also, by the name of the file, it sounds that if it's valid upgrade to Morrowind, then it's upgrade to vanilla Morrowind only, not one with Tribunal installed.

EDIT:
After Googling the official TES site lists it as normal Morrowind patch, which should not be installed if you already have Tribunal installed (which I gather you have).

sounds like a re-install moment to me...
are you running any other mods?
any recent changes before the "update"?

I usually use these times to play with a few more mods... :D

But before you installed it, you downloaded it. Please tell us where you downloaded it from, and what it was described as. That helps us figure what happened, instead of taking stabs in the dark. ;)

Kipi thinks it may be you overwrote the Tribunal fixes with a Morrowind official patch. I don't know; only you can tell us what you read, and what you downloaded. Then we can figure out the remedy.

Sounds like you overwrote your exe with an old patch. If you're running the expansions with an old exe the features they try to use won't be there and the game will get confused and crash.

For example Tribunal and Bloodmoon introduce a lot of new scripting commands as well as start scripts.

If you go to 'C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind' you'll find a text file calling warning. Attach this to a post and I can look more closely at the problem.

Answers to your questions are as follows:

1. Kipi – Yes, I have Tribunal already installed and started to playing it.

2. Blushy – I don’t know if I’m running other mods because I don’t know what they are.

3. Fable – Wish I could tell you where it came from. I’m very much a computer novice and I don’t think of things like that.

4. Magelord 648 - Here is what is in the Warning folder:

Chunk size 10 too big in chunk WEAT_ID in form REGN_ID.
Max size is 8, data truncated to " # ".

Try reinstalling the last official Tribunal patch. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Tribunal. Mind, these are just followups to what Kipi theorizes, but for lack of all other information, it's a shot in the dark that may work.

Morrownd Upgrade

When I reinstall do I have to do an uninstall first?
If I have to uninstall first, is there a way to save my playing position?
Or do I have to start all over again?

First, try installing the latest Tribunal patch over your current game.

If that still doesn't work, uninstall Tribunal. Then reinstall it.
If I have to uninstall first, is there a way to save my playing position?
Or do I have to start all over again?
I would suggest moving your character back to the mainland before you uninstall it.

You mentioned installing the latest patch for Tribunal. The only one I have came with the original discs/game. If there is another one I am unaware of it. Could you tell me where there is a newer one and how I would go about getting it?

I can’t open the game so I can’t get back to the mainland. If possible, I just don’t want to restart the game all over again, for the fourth time. Of course, I am getting better at playing it. : )

Would this be a good time to inquire about how to download mods and how to play them? On this I am even more ignorant, if that’s possible.

Once again, many thanks for all your generous help.

Go to the Bethesda Softworks website, and download the latest Tribunal patch from there.

This is actually good advice for any game, by the way. ;)

Thanks for all you help. You all are really the best when it comes to helping others.

Having said that, now the bad news, at least for me. Downloaded the newest patch for Tribunal. but it did not cure my problem. So I reckon I'll just have to uninstall and reinstall the game and start playing it all over again, for the fourth time.

Do you know if there is a way to save my last game save, maybe to a flash drive? One in which I can load back in to start playing again after I do a reinstall? Again, thanks everyone for your help.

Before you reinstall

Are you also running Bloodmoon?

I can’t get the game to open. As it is loading and is almost completely loaded it crashes.

I think Magelord may have been asking whether you currently have Bloodmoon installed.

I’ve saved my game saves, uninstalled then reinstalled the game. But now, the two individuals needed to get to both Tribunal and Bloodmoon are not where they are supposed to be. Asciene Rane is not inside Ebonheart and S’virr is not at the docks in Khuul. Can I get these people to be where they are supposed to be?

Yes, Bloodmoon is installed

Please, if anybody else has problems loading Morrowind, first do a search on our forum to see if your answers lie there, and if they don't, start a new thread. Don't use somebody else's thread, like this one, to seek a solution for your difficulties. It's unfair to Lunan, just as it would be unfair if it were done to you. Thanks.

Lunan, meaning no offense, but it would have helped if you told us exactly what you had installed, first. Because that would have let us give you better advice. As it is, now that we know you have Bloodmoon installed, you are going to have to uninstall that and Tribunal. Then reinstall Tribunal, and patch it; then Bloodmoon, and patch it. In that order.

Fable, no offense taken, on the contrary, I really appreciate how helpful everyone here has been. I apologize for any unnecessary confusion my inaptitude may have caused. And it would really be disingenuous of me, or anyone else, to think otherwise.

Now my problem: I can’t find how to uninstall Bloodmoon and Tribunal. I’ve looked in Control Panel\Add-Remove and it’s not there.

I’ve looked under C:\Program Files \ Bethesda Softworks \ Morrowind\ Data Files \ and found Bloodmoon.bsa and Bloodmoon.rsm, same for Tribunal; but there is no way to do an uninstall. How do I do an uninstall; or do I simply delete them?

By patching, does that mean going to Bethesda and installing the updated version?
