I recently heard that the word doh, used by Homer Simpson has just been added to the websters dictionary. If anybody else has heard about this let me know, for it is a very frightening thought.

The word doh? Think about that for a second. The U.S. is supposed to be the greatest country in the world and a word invented by Homer Simpson is now going to become part of our dictionary. Why don't we just add the Simpson family to our flag or better yet make Homer Simpson the president.....actually that might not be a bad idea considering who is in the white house now.

if it's good enough for Homer, it's good enough for me!

It's probably going to be added with a "slang" notation. Webster's done that quite a bit in the past.
And if you find that surprising, well, doh.

@Yanlee I suppose you are right...we will all have to succumb to the power of Homer.

What makes a word important enough to be put into the Webster's dictionary? Is this word being put in because so many people use it or what?

If thats the case, than why isn't funner in the dictionary? By far more people use "funner" then they use "d'oh"

I think "doh" is pretty common, now, in many parts of the US, while "funner" isn't something I've heard for years.

I pray the day never comes when "funner" is an accepted part of the language.
D'oh is a great word-- it succintly summarises your mood when you screw something up.

I believe the last person to use it in conversation was imbedded in tarmac.

Funner may not be used in other countries as much, (And I personnally abhor the word) it is commonly used in teenage "slang" and typical dialect. This is a sad truth of the days, and the degradation of the human language...
