Yes I'm an idiot shut up. I can't seem to get the party editor at the very begin to work. I can only select my characters from the other two campaigns but I can't seem to get the thing to accept it. When I exit out of it it's just my single character again. What am I doing wrong?

You are missing the buttons! Have you patched to the latest version? If not, please do that. If you have I don't know what to tell you other than try re-installing?
