Infinity Engine and Planescape: Torment?

Post by Thirsk »

Greets, first post on the forums.

I'll cut right to the point: While playing through Planescape: Torment (which I, at the time writing, still is) all these - to me - great ideas for similar questing action came to my mind, and I started wondering wether it was possible to use the games engine for creating small fan missions or alike. A quick research on the mighty internets yielded information of this certain Infinity Engine, which seems to be just what I am looking for.
Now, the trouble is that I doesn't own any other Inifinity Engine-based games that Planescape: Torment, and I can't seem to find the engine within the game's files.

So, the question is: Does anyone know wether it's there (in some form that I've overlooked, being no wiz with computers and all that) or not, and, if the later is the case, if the engine can be obtained through other means (the obvious "buy Baldurs Gate II" isn't what I'm looking for) or if another tool can be used to create dialogue-heavy RPGs in the style of Torment?

Thanks.

I've never really been involved with modding, but I think the Infinity Explorer is a tool used to examine all the aspects of a game that uses the Infinity Engine. At least, that's what I think is used for the various mods in BG2, and would most likely work for PS:T.

Sorry if I didn't answer your question at all.

Thanks for the answer in any case, I'll look it up.

With that being said, anyone with more extensive answers are still welcome to reply.

The primary tool for creating Infinity Engine mods is called "WeiDU". Fansites such as Gibberlings Three, Spellhold Studios and the Pocket Plane Forum all host countless fan-created mods that were created with WeiDU. My own PS:T mods also use WeiDU.

If you just use Infinity Explorer to modify files and package them up to create mods, you will almost certainly create compatibility problems with other mods such that you won't be able to use them together.
