If you had a time machine...

where and when would you like to go?

This question was asked, I think by Fable, a long time ago at this board. I remember Waverly answered that he'd like to go to Cretaceous, provided he could bring a couple of bathing suit models. And then someone asked him if he didn't think the Creatceous women would be as good looking enough :D :D :D

I was ROFLMAO for half an hour :D

Anyway, where and when would you go, and why?

Interesting question. It would have to be so i could see my dad with sideburns and hair on the top of his head :D :D

I haven't actually got a serious answer to this question, so i can only be glib :D

I'd like to go to the Devonian era, to a nice beach in what is now Morocco, and take a swim among the trilobites and ammonites. I've loved trilobites since I was a small kid, 3-4 years old, and I still do :) Unfortunately, they can only be seen in fossilied form, since they became extinct some 240 million years ago :(

I'd also like to go to Babylonia in ancient Mesopotamia (now Iraque) and check out the Hanging gardens and why on earth they constructed these things than are similar to modern batteries. ;) :D

Don't know. Kind of like it where I am actually. On this subject, though, I would like to recommend a video I recently rented:

Black Adder (the very same as the TV series ten years or so ago) - Back and forth.

It starts at New Years Eve 1999 and, believe it or not, involves a time mashine. Don't miss it if you like Black Adder.

Maybe I would travel laterally and take some time out - then travel back again, completely refreshed, and have only been gone 5 minutes :D I could do it while the kids are at school :D

Thank you Astafas, I love Black Adder :) Especially the Renaissance series :) I will look out for "Back and forth".

Btw, in my question I assume you will return to present date after you time travel, see it as a holiday trip. :)

EDIT: @Astafas: Have you moved to Stockholm recently? I thought you lived in Ludvika before? Or am I mixing things up?

I think my own choice when I posted this topic originally was to sit in conversation (well, listening, really) to Ben Jonson and Shakespeare, two old drinking buddies and fellow playwrights who knew each other well. I might even want to throw in John Marston and George Chapman, just for variety's sake. And plenty of booze, of course.

Judging by the humble way in which he presented his revolutionary theories, it probably wouldn't be half as fun as it sounds :)

As for time machines, second best would be arriving a minute later to listen in on the following discussion :D

The best would of course be going to Silur.

Curently, I'm thinking that I would go back in time and prevent myself from coming into contact with whoever gave me this cold. I'm miserable.

There's an archaeological site that I worked on once that I would love to visit just before it was aboandoned (Volcanic eruption) about 1400 years ago.

I'd like to check out the grassy knoll back on that day in 1963.

I'd like to check out Tucson in the 1870s (pre-railroad) just to see what life was like back then. I'd also like to hang out with the fur-trappers in Colorado, but I can't speak French, so it might be difficult.

If I could take a video camera, I would like to prove wether OJ did it or not.

I would also rent my time-traveling services out to Historians to get footage of interesting historical events.

It would be great to go back 12,000 years or more to find out when Humans really did enter North America.

Oh, there is so much I would like to do. I haven't even touched on the mistakes in my own life that I would like to correct.

This reminds me of the time that Q let Picard change the event that resulted in that fight with the Nausicans. Though it had been a mistake, it was better left uncorrected. :)

I've never liked those "change the past for the better and it always gets worse" kind of scenarios that play out so predicatably. I'm not saying I would deliberately set about "righting wrongs" everywhere, because I'm not quite sure in many cases that what I consider rights and wrongs are so objectively established that I can play god. But I don't see any problem with having a good time, investigating at leisure, and raising merry hell. :D

@CE:

Actually, you're mixing me up with Karembeu. I take no offense, though. I live in Uppsala but have been working in Stockholm ever since I started writing on this board. I do most on my writing at work and therefor felt it appropriate to change the city. Am looking for an appartement in Stockholm at the moment but you probably know of the prices...

I think I would travel back in time and pack a lunch for work today. I mean the pasta with pesto and veggies was *right there*, but no I was late again and didn't take anything. Today was potluck, I had to eat those little c0cktail hotdogs. *shiver*

@Gwally: The archeological site you'd like to visit, how did the people there live and where was it?

@Astafas: My apologies, you are right, I'm mixing up the only two fellow countrymen I've seen on the board.

Looking for a flat in Stockholm? *sigh* Good luck. Prices are indeed ridiculous. I and my husband are actually considering moving - you might like to buy our flat? ;) :D

There are several places I'd be interested in going.

1.)Back in time to Egypt to meet Queen Nefertiti.

2.)Then to visit Leonardo DaVinci(Sp?)

3.)Then to meet Pablo Picasso.

4.)Then to meet Albert Einstein.

5.)Then to meet Joan d'Arc.

6.)Then to visit one of the ancient Chinese Empires.

7.)Then to visit one of the ancient Japanese empires.

8.)Then to watch the building of Stonehenge.

There are probably other places I'd like to go, but I don't remember where.

If I could actually go back and forth through time, I wouldn't talk or do anything to anyone, because the slightest change could, say, prevent WW2. Not thats a bad thing, but most of us would never exist if the world hadn't been changed by the war.

But then if I was erased, I could have never gone back and done that, making everything the way it was before I interfeared. But then I would born again and one day go back again and change it again. Thus a time loop happens. Yes, I know I'm a nerd. ;)

I would like to back and see moments in history, like the ancients and dinosaurs. Go into the future, see what happens in the world.
