I'm playing Fallout 2 and have the car but it has run out of gas. I have fuel to refill it but how do I put it in. I've tried everything but I can't refuel it.

usually I just fiddle around with the right mouse button until I get a kind of dropdown menu. There should be the option to refill the car.

Basically, that's correct. Specifically you have to select the inventory button from dropdown menu, then select the fuel from the inventory list. Just be sure that the cursor is at the top of the rest of car, not the trunk.
