Pondering WinVista

I'm finally going to get a new gaming PC.
My friend who usually advices me about PCs is now all about Vista. However, I'm pretty sceptic about it. Can someone share their experience about Vista with me? Do you know how good virtualemulation software runs on it? I don't want to give up my old games. (I'm thinking about M&M, Mechwarrior Mercs, Jagged Alliance, Fallout, etc.)
Thanks in advance!

I'm using Windows Vista (64-bit) myself for over a month and so far so good. Aside from some incompatible drivers, I was able to find most Vista-capable drivers. As for games, I was able to run games as early as 2003 like Freedom Fighters just fine.

I think someone here ever mentioned that he was able to run DOSBox just fine on Vista a while ago.

I've run Vista x64 for about 1½ year by now and it has by far been the most stable Windows OS I've ever run, and I do think I've pretty much had all installments through the years by now.
There are still issues with 64 bit OS and some games/programs, but for me it has been minor annoyances. Drives I've not had problems with as long as I keep to "decent" hardware and avoid no-named/clone hardware, but I do not know if those are also up to scratch.
I've not tried to run games like Fallout directly through Windows yet, but I've had a lot of success with running DOSBox for older games.
I can only recommend Vista based on my own personal experiences, but I would advice you to get decent hardware which you are sure can run it.
