Your dream date, both of 'em

I suppose this gets back to the whole idea of what a date is meant to be. Not that we all don't enjoy the scenery, but we usually have some purpose in mind. We go out on some dates for pure enjoyment at the time, and that can include anything from playing pool in some bar called Fat Bob's, to watching a symphony, to discussing life, the arts, and existence. Other dates are rather more physically inclined, and attains to a different kind of stimulation and relaxation.

Of course, both are quite possible together--in fact, that's advisable. But note, we don't usually think of people we would date as fitting into both categories. The person we'd join in bed is not necessarily the person we'd go watch either a soccer game or La Boheme with.

Hence the question: if you could date somebody to bed, and somebody for everything else--anybody in history--who would those two people be? And yes, you can give one name as an answer for both conditions. :)

In the more historical sense Lord Byron might be interesting (both)

In a more recent sense....Leonard Cohen (both)....Mmmmm....that voice

He may be fishing for compliments, hoping that some of the fine ladies of SYM might pick him? :D

Except for my husband, who suits both categories, I'd like to date:

A 30-40 year old Sean Connery for bed

For intellectual discussion:
living people
Steven J Gould or Stephen Hawking

historical:
Democritos - I'd like to ask him how on earth he developed the atomism :)

Hey! I thought :D meant "grin" not "leer"! I was grinning, not leering! Okay, maybe I was leering just a little. Okay, okay, I admit that Fable may be on my list for the intelligent date, but he's not at the top of the list! Er, at least I don't think so..... (is it alright to :D here?)

i thought leucippus first developed atomism, and you just gotta love how your entire freedom depends on the swerve of the atoms (more epicurean, than democritis and leucippus)

back on topic - i think i'd like to have cleopatra for both.
living...ummmm, i'll say anna kournikova for the physical date...yummy.
:D :D
and i don't know who i'd pick that's living for an intellectual encounter.

I don't know who was first with the idea of atomism, Democritos is just one I've read most about.

Err, I didn't expect such an honest answer... :o I cannot say it was totally surprising, though...

Ask fable, please... :o :D

No, that post was directed at you, so the ending grin was also directed at you.... :eek: Fortunately, I've always thought :D signified laughing and grinning at an intended joke!

But, to actually answer the topic question, for some odd reason, Jane Goodall springs to mind. I remember seeing the old National Geographic Specials with her back in High School and thinking she was cute (probably the accent). So a 20-30 year old Jane would probably fill both of my dates - provided that the intelligent part of the date involved following her around in the Jungle for about a week.

The problem with picking out celebrities for the physical date, such as Anna Kournikova, is that I have no idea what they might be like in real life. For all I know, she could show up smelling of cigarette smoke (a major turn-off for me IMO) or be something of a dip. Alternatively, we might not match very well personality-wise. She might suggest we get to know each other better by going out to the court so she could practice her serve, and I would say something dumb like "Why? You're never going to win any majors anyway?" That would be the end of that.

So, most of my physical dream dates either involve the fictional or public versions of celebrities, or people in my own life that no one on this forum would know.

Wisely said. I doubt I'd want to bed Colette for the same reason. Perhaps for mental stimulation, then? Or Madame de Stael. For the flip side, Emma Thompson or Diana Rigg in her prime, perhaps? Not that I have much to complain about in either department, given my wife. :D

Emma Thompson in her prime.... *drool* ;)

@Jaker: My wife, of course :D

@All: Well, hypothetically;
<on topic>
<bed>
<historic>
I'd say Cleopatra just to see if the rumor is true :) even though modern findings show that she wasn't particularly beautiful. If I close my eyes and think of how she looks in the comic "Asterix", it might work out.
</historic>
<alive>
This is more difficult, but I think I would go for a younger version of Laureen Bacall (and with Bogart well out of the picture ;) ).
</alive>
</bed>
<intellectual>
<historic>
Because of our misogynistic past, the number of historic females is outnumbered by far by men, I think I'd have to turn homosexual on this account and choose Leibnitz. Marie Curie and Ada Lovelace are other alternatives, although a person with all the knowledge of his time is hard to beat.
</historic>
<alive>
No good, wellknown alternatives here.
</alive>
</intellectual>
</on topic>
<irrelevant note>
For some strange reason, I kind of like XML... I hope there's medication for that (my guess: more Guinness :D )

I agree completely, that's why I've never been interested in dating celebrities (unless I happen to meet them - I don't discriminate against them either :D )

I was about to say "Younger Lauren Bacall - *drool*" but then I realized that I would also have to drool over Silur's and Fable's wives - to be fair, of course. At that point, I realized that I wouldn’t be making any friends that way, so I'll shut up now. :p :D
