Mage question

Post by szenhidrat »

Just started the game, i'm a lvl 2 fighter with 31/31 hp and i want to change my class into a mage. is there andy "ideal level" to do that? I mean mages get only 1-4 hp/level. So should i stick with fighter to lvl 5-6 to get more hps, or can i go now to became a mage earlyer but loose a lot of hps? Will the Nameless One okay with lvl2 fighter/lvl x mage hpoints later in the game?

I don't think it really matters as you can change back to a fighter any time you want. You still gain hitpoints as a mage and frankly, I think that if you keep increasing your constitution, you should be fine.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”

okay, thanks for help. So i'm now a mage and got 20 wis, 19 int 13 cha and 9 dex/str/con. So should i put the rest into con? How much int does a mage need in torment? And is there a +% exp bonus cap in wisdom?

You gain hit points for a level based on which class reaches a certain level -first-.

For example, if the first class that reaches level 5 is fighter, you'll roll a 10 sided die for hit points. If the first class that reaches level 5 is mage, you'll only roll a 4 sided die for hit points.

So once you get to level 6 as a fighter, for example, you can switch to mage and level for a while without losing any hit points, as long as you don't hit level 7. Once you reach level 9, you won't get a lot of hit points per level anymore, so don't worry about which class you level first in anymore (barring the following)

Be aware that there are "specializations" at level 7 and 12. The first class you reach those levels with is considered the class you're specialized in, and that gives you some benefits in that class. Be aware of two things when picking which class to specialize in:

1) You will want both your level 7 and level 12 specializations to be in the same class. If you hit level 7 first with one class, and level 12 first with another class, you'll get crap as far as bonuses.

2) Other than the stat boosts, most of the other bonuses you get require you to be -in- that class to utilize them. So other than the stat boosts you won't get much use out of fighter specialization if you're usually playing as a mage.

Given the stats you've described, you'll want to reach level 7 and 12 as a mage before reaching those levels with any other class.

Raising constitution won't do anything for you till you get to 15. That's pretty much true of strength and dexterity too, though. So up to you which to pump points into. Personally, I'd go for dexterity, as a dex of 13 will be useful in passing a few stat checks. More than you'll get in str or con, anyway.

Another hint: Don't put any more points into wisdom at levelup... you will get many opportunities to get points in it through gameplay, and you could wind up wasting them as you can't get over 25 in any single stat.
