I tried the cheydinhal recommendation early and stole the black soul gems. I then apparently filled and used them. Now I finished the mission and have no black soul gems. I even tried to make a few but that did not work either. Any suggestions? I would rather not start all the way over.

Are you sure you didn't stash them somewhere?

If you're playing on a PC you can use the console to give yourself the gems, otherwise I think you're scuppered and will have to revert to an earlier save.

I'd read elsewhere that that could happen, but when I tried soul trapping an NPC as an experiment, I got the message about not having a soul gem big enough, so presumably you used them on creatures.

I dont have an early enough save so I guess I 'll have to start over. I just started over several months ago because I messed up a mission for the mage's guild. Sucko!! At least its a great game, and I will be getting the expansion tonight!!
