Gray Cowl of Nocturnal (possible spoiler)

hi,

I have a problem with my Oblivion, playing on PS3 so can't use console command.

I've searched the forum but get nothing(only similar).

On TG questline, you got orders from Armand-Skriv'va-Gray Fox,
but for me it's Armand-Gray Fox(Savilla Stone)-Skriv'va-GF-Skriv'va-GF.

Amusei and Methredhel didn't approach me, I'm the one that approach them.
As a reward I don't get the Cowl.

With the Wedding ring in my hand, I went to Anvil, gave it to the Countess, Gray Fox talk with her, then he leave, and then the game FREEZE.

I know this is my fault, because my second character got the Cowl.

But that won't help.
I've no save before messing with TG.
And my first character(lv 61 Nord) is very powerful, while the second(30) is very doubtfull

One more question: could you find an unenchanted staff(not Mages Guild quest)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

No

I'm afraid I don't know of any way out of your Cowl dilemma, hopefully someone will prove me wrong, but it looks to me like you're going to have to live without it.

Terrible,

And there is one thing that makes it even worse, I don't have Paralysis in the list when enchanting weapon.

My Illusion is 100 and I already have all the spells listed in UESPWiki

I don't even know that Paralyze can be planted to your weapon, I think it's same with Invisibility in armor enchanting,

then I read a post that suggest enchanting a bow with Paralyze spell.

are there any problem on my PS3 or what?

If you have any suggestion please tell me

Neither paralyze or invisibilty are enchantable in the vanilla game, or with the following official mods:

Knights of the Nine
Frostcrag
Mehrune's Razor
Orrery
Thieve's Den

So, unless one of the other official mods has changed things, or Shivring Isles, then the person that made the post you referred to must have a 3rd party mod installed, or made a mistake.

I checked various shops yesterday, and no SI or GOTY at all,

Look in some sites but did'nt trust them,
had bad memories purchasing from sites.

But if you have any that you think trustworthy, I'd be pleased to know

Amazon is very trustworthy.

Just google it.

I'm pretty sure I've seen weapons with paralyse on them but I've never actually put it onto a weapon myself.

There are indeed weapons in the game that have a paralysis enchantment ML, but you can't enchant them with it yourself.

You can of course use poison if you can find paralyzing potions, or make them yourself.

then, you mean if I install Shivering Isles or maybe even buy GOTY, I can enchant paralyze on weapon and invisibility in armor, right?

But I'm rather confused when reading this:

Did that mean I won't be able to enchant anything with Paralyze even if I have installed SI or playing with GOTY disc?

I'm searching Amazon now, thanks Magelord :)

Did you go to the abbey before the quest to get the AoE? Because that affects the questline.

Abbey?
AoE? Altar of Enchanting?
What questline? Mages Guild's?

Explanation please?

Very sorry, I feel lost

In the list I gave I only included the extensions I have access too. I haven't bought other expansions (Horse armour for example) or Shivering Isles so I don't know what they change, which is why I excluded them.

I bought the original game, plus the expansions I mentioned, which is why I can say for certain that paralysis is un-enchantable in those.

When it comes to versions I don't have, I obviously don't know. I doubt that it's been changed in other expansions, but doubting and being able to state as fact aren't the same thing.

Well, it looks like I misunderstood your post,
I thought you played SI,

So, the only choice left is to use Volendrung, right? (sure hope not)

Btw, this is the post:
UncleScratchy wrote:Stong Bow? Spoilers - maybe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you mean a Daedric bow? There are all sorts of "destruction and illusion school" enchantments you can put on a bow. Or you can just summon a Daedric bow with the right conjuration spell. That way you never have to repair it. I like to put a Weakness to Fire (or lightning, or frost) enchantment on my bow set to 100% weakness and then use a ranged spell matching the weakness to get a quick kill. Use a black soul gem with a grand sole trapped in it to enchant the bow for the more shots between rechargings). Paralyze enchantments also work well but will not work on vampires. For killing certain monsters (for example, gloom wraiths and daedric monsters if I'm not mistaken) you need a either a daedric bow, a silver bow with any type arrow, or any bow (other than daedric) firing silver arrows. Otherwise only the enchanted part of the arrow/bow will have any affect. All conjured weapons, like the bow, will be daedric and will kill anything. Just as important is your skill level with the bow. At 75 proficiency you have a chance of knocking down the target and at 100 you have a chance of paralyzing the target. Also you get a 3X mutliplier if you are in sneak mode and undetected or under 100% chameleon.
I mastered bow long ago, sometimes paralyze the target. But I want to replace that sometimes with always.

Any other way?
I think it would be very fun if have both Paralyze and Soul Trap -along with other enchantments of course- enchanted on your weapon

as soon as I get the reply of Paralyze being enchantable in SI, I'll buy GOTY via Amazon,
so I definitely need your help to decide

Uncle Scratchy's post was somewhat misleading, the unintentional implication that you could enchant a weapon with paralyze yourself was unfortunate.

As mentioned there are weapons in the game which have paralysis, Volendrung as you've pointed out being one of them.

You can always us alchemy to make poisons which paralyze opponents, off the top of my head Harada+Milk Thistle Seeds+Nightshade+Dryad Spore/Frost Salts makes a rather nice one. Damage Health+Frost damage+Paralyze, as Uncle Scratchy pointed out not much use against Vampire's though, or Atronachs or Argonians of course.

I have 32 poisons with Paralyze effect, already use many of it in battles (mainly Arena)
But it's only for the first strike, isn't it?

The problem is: I've to wait for nearly 2min to bring up the menu, and 13-16 secs to move from other sections to inventory sect.
I carry LOTs of potions, all type of weapon (all self enchanted, except for the "unique" staves), etc, the total weight now is 1040, and will increase if I find more potion, especially Strong Potion of Healing.

I carry them all because:
1. It's impossible to repair weapon in the midst of battle
2. Bound weapon is weightless, but not enchanted, to fight a lv 61
Troll/Dread Zombie on 3/4 difficulty meter with it......
3. Summon a creature and let it have all the sensation while I'm hiding? No
way

For the reason above, I really want to have a weapon with Paralyze and Soul Trap for my primary weapon, and the Cowl for its high Feather enchantment.

If it is still not possible, then
may I ask what Sigil Stones are best for my character?

Well if you really want to play a way you can't, your best bet would be the PC version. That's what I eventually ended up doing with Morrowind. There are thousands of user made mods and I'm sure there'll be one that does what you're looking for and if not I could have a go at doing it for you. (I'm a modder) Unless you do that I don't think you're going to be enchanting you're own paralyse weapons. Of course some people don't like playing on PCs. I started with consoles but I much prefer the computer now because of the flexibility with many games that you don't get on the console versions.

The abbey of the moth priests. AoE means Arrow of Extrication, but I was wrong about that. I was meaning the Thieves Guild quests.

I had the Wedding Ring, only need to give it to the Countess, but when that's done the game freeze
your best bet would be the PC version
Well, definitely worth trying,

Btw, have you seen UncleScratchy?
I always have one tab for Who's Online, but I never saw him, I think it's because the different time zone.

Hope he can help me (it was his post that suggest to enchant a weapon with Paralyze) while I'm searching the PC version (my location is rather "isolated" from video game disc)

Well, I ask the shopkeeper about mods, and he said better not use them, can cause many problems.

So I went back home and create a new character
Hope this time I get at least the Gray Cowl and if possible,
the enchanted Emperor's Robe, but I don't know how to get it

Then the shopkeeper's an idiot that doesn't know what he's talking about! Can mods cause problems? Sure, so can crossing the road!

The vast majority of mods will not cause problems, and if they do, just remove them!

Are there any negative side effects after removing the mods?
