I know you're not supposed to plug web sites but I just put a homepage up. Rather than put it in my sig for all to see, I thought I'd invite you all to Speak Your Mind regarding my first real foray into HTML.
Gruntboy's University web page.
Bear in mind I did this as an exercise for school, so its a little stale. But soon gruntboy.co.uk will be up and running.
I tried not to give too much away but some of you might find out more about me than you'd care to know...
Constructive criticism gratefully received, thanks.

I noticed it was generated by Word....never a good plan

Better to learn HTML and write it yourself than let word kak it up for you
Seriously though, that was a fairly decent page, nothing horribly wrong with it

Did I go to the wrong page? It was a seemingly normal person's college experience, some guy named Michael.. *confused*
I must have clicked on the wrong link...

You should try the link that leads to Michael's photographic exposé of pantless Marines..... disturbing stuff! Apparently that little bit escaped the university censers.
BTW: It looks better than anything I could have done. Don't listen to Sleepy..

Nice job Grunty. Don't listen to Sleep, he is just made because there is no sheep on the site.

LOL
After I get some experience, the web isn't safe. Mwuh-hah-HAH!
Cheers all.
Sleep, you're right. Trust you to view the source.

I just couldn't be bothered to type those table dimensions up though - so I did the table in word and saved as HTML. After that, its all pure Grunt.

Well, my mild mannered alter ego at least.

If I was any more mercenary, I'd remove the acknowledgement.

@Gruntboy: Nice work.
Is it compulsory at your uni? I have allocated space somewhere in my university network, but haven't touched it.

I actually use programs to do table creation, there is a free one called Arachnophilia which i use every so often, you have to know how to hard code, but other than that it is okay

That may be the problem, I was expecting that
Grunt: Good job

@Gruntboy - By the way I was wondering if you have heard of a package called 'Dreamweaver'? It is similar to word in it uses a word style interface to write HTML but it seems to write nicer code than word does. I used it alot at university. It can also optimise the code as well to make the page smaller.

When I make websites, I useally use frontpage for the "complex stuff" such as putting tables and stuff up (I like WYSIWYG for that

), but it makes a horrendeus source-code, so the rest I type up and optimize in its htmleditor.

Ubik's back! Run!
Not bad Grunty. although, the word doesn't do it justice. Pick up a "Dummies" book. thats what I did.

Ah! so that is the reason for the disclaimer

LMAO everyone.
Minerva, its not compulsory but they are very "in" to IT. There are over 600 workstations and everyone gets 25MB of webspace. My course (info systems and technology) is one of the more IT oriented and it is part of our practicals and assessments to put this stuff up.
I am already stamping my authority on the uni discussion boards...
Arachnophilia and dreamweaver I have heard of. One step at a time in this learning process, I'll get there eventually.
Aegis: I can't stand those dummies books. They have the dummies guide to sex and allsorts these days

But thanks for the tip. There is a lot of good html advice and guidance on the web itself.

Well Micha... I mean Gruntboy, I know nothing about HTML so I would have to say that it is a good effort.
