Tolkien made regular use of medieval European source documents for names, races, and lingustic characteristics. I remember reading a short saga tale from medieval Scandanavia a few years ago in which the king of a giant race was named Gandalf.

Heh keep up with times? i can barely understand the rules for D&D sometimes
